Yeah you'd have to say that looks like it's staying in the record books for a while. Although if more overseas runners come and have a dig at it, then who knows. I don't know much about the ultra running scene but the guy sounds like he's The Boss, so it could be one for the ages.

Apparently the conditions were a key part of such an epic time, a lot of boggy ground in the Lakes is as dry as it's been in living memory.
When you come to think about it, the ground being so dry, makes perfect sense with the incredible time, as not having to wade through mud must`ve not only saved a lot of time, but also energy too.

I've been going to the gym since just before last Christmas. Three times a week with a personal trainer. He's very gorgeous but way too young for me lol! He is also an out and out sadist and has almost killed me on more than one occasion. However I am now two sizes smaller and two stone lighter. I wouldn't go as far as saying I enjoy it but I miss it if I don't go. This is a whole new world to me.

good on you. Well done.

Ok, more or less resolved on the 235. Now for the hard stuff. For public witness, I'll document my goals here:

Get back into running
Lose 2 stone

First, about the knee soreness...

Knee doesn't appear seriously injured (finally got it checked out), just likely bursitis, on meds for a week and will check back in with the doc and then try again. Good on all of you who are making progress.

I've started taking a vegan supplement called Huel. It's a powder which you mix with water and is designed to replace meals when you haven't got the time. It has at least 100% of your 26 essential vitamins and minerals (some over 400%) and is pretty filling. I have the metabolism of a teenager even at 30 so it's an absolute life saver. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Myprotien do there own brand one near enough the same but alot cheaper

While on holiday my Wife and I went out running every morning. Only 2-3 miles but it was hard work when the temps where over mid 20's at 7:30am. But it was my arm strap for my phone that caused me the most grief. It just wouldn't stay in place. So I bit the bullet and bought a smartwatch (one with a fruit based name) on my return. It runs Strava for me to monitor my runs, t monitors my heartbeat and plays my music to my headphones. Can't recommend one highly enough.

WOOL

I`ve been suffering quite a bit from stiffness after running, so I`ve started using a - " Foam Roller " as part of my warm down ( don`t laugh ).

It looks like a giant nobbly loo roll, that you roll on, but it really works.

Since I`ve been using it, the stiffness in my legs has all but gone.

I do a 5 min session on it immediately after every run.

Worth investing in.

Aye, I've got one. Not quite as good with it as I should be as I'm often sweaty and hungry after a workout so showering and eating take priority. They are good though.

Heading for a long weekend in the Alps on Friday before having a bit of an easier October as it's a heavy work month with a lot of travel involved so time for riding will be limited.

The whole FKT thing is bordering on the nonsense imo. Its become a sort of kudos system for elite ultra runners, but frankly if you care about that sort of thing then you've got your nose way too far up your ar$e. Most runners can relate to running 50 or 100 miles even if they don't run ultras, but I don't think most of them can relate to getting around a particular course that isn't even official in the fastest time possible outside of a race. Admittedly it did sound cool when the Millenium Falcon did the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs, though.

I couldn`t agree more mate. Most of them on the whole FKT on the amateur ultra running scene are a gang of absolute weirdos.

I could understand it if they were doing full time and getting paid for it, but they`re not and it`s borderline obsessional.

Lots of them are trying to lead normal lives and then fit in training regimes that are professional in all but name.

They must be fun to live with.

3am the alarm goes off in the middle of December.

" see you in 5 hours luv, I`m just off to do a quick 50 miles lol

Use one myself mate. If you are planning on increasing your milage, its worth going for a sports massage. They will find any knots in all your leg muscles and advise you where to concentrate on using foam roller.

Cheers mate.

I`ve started building my mileage up and also started to add " fartlek " into my running, as prep for doing a trail marathon ( Man v the Lakes ) in 2020.

I`m doing a trail half marathon next year ( Hell Runner ), as a gauge of where I am fitness wise.

I`m 100% not arsed about times. It`s all about enjoying it, feeling good and having a great day out ;)
