Well because of Rock teasing the Reigns match on Raw early January, I was either expecting Rock or Punk to win the Rumble....or perhaps Cody winning, but just to then set up a Triple threat match Reigns vs Rock vs Cody, with Punk vs Rollins in the other match...
Maybe with Punks injury, this is the new direction they've opted to go with....
I get the business decision to go with Reigns vs Rock, but storyline wise it makes no sense now for Cody to just step aside..
If they were always gonna go with Reigns vs Rock at Mania, they should have had Cody beat Reigns first...Rock Reigns doesn't need the Title, just like Hogan vs Rock didnt

It's clearly been cobbled together because of C Montgomery Punk getting hurt. I think the Rock vs Roman "head of the table" stuff was meant to be next year, once Roman had been relieved of the titles, as Dwayne has time off then. He's stepping in now to help out the company he part owns, but loads of people seem to think he's just turned in to Hulk Hogan.
I think they’ll find a way to make it work.

WWE are handing out signs in the crowd for Cody Rhodes. Their commentators are talking about this on shows. I think they actually know what they're doing here for once and are trying recreate the Daniel Bryan storyline on their own terms.
Part of me was wondering this. Are they gonna be all "Rock is back, but the fans are demanding Cody in the ME, so now it's a 3-way"?

Yeah as soon as they showed the Cody signs repeatedly, and the commentators and wrestlers acknowledged it, you knew this was a work....
Whether its Roman fighting both nights, or its a triple treat, Cody is winning the Universal title at Mania...
Rollins vs Drew seems the most obvious 2nd World title match right now
It’s a fairly easy story to tell if they want too but sort of depends if The Rock is willing to do Mania and then Summerslam.
Cody refuses to back down as he has the option for WM so they add The Rock to the fight. The Rock is down in the match and Solo and Jimmy try to cheat to stop Cody winning. Rock comes back to help but it leads to Cody winning. Cody gets his moment, Roman doesn’t lose clean.
They go to Summerslam with Roman v The Rock (with no belts as they don’t need them) and Roman looks like he’s going to win but then Jimmy, Jey and Solo all turn on him and The Rock is the winner (maybe keep Solo as a heel). Roman can claim he’s been screwed as he wouldn’t have been pinned clean either time. Rock is still a face and they don’t have to have him drop a title or get pinned.
Roman then has to build back up which would eventually lead to a face turn somewhere down the line.
Im pretty sure once Roman loses the title then he's done with wrestling due to his leukemia.. that's why he's kept it so long. He can't wrestle more than once every 1-2 months supposedly.

Back when I used to watch WWE you had a similiar storyline with Benoit winning the Royal Rumble to face Triple H then Shawn Michaels putting himself into the match.
This would suggest Roman v Rock v Cody is on.
