This scene illustrates some of the chaos around Wembley on the day of the 1968 FA Cup final between Everton and West Bromwich Albion.

Even now I struggle to discuss the pain and disappointment that defeat caused!!!!!

Normally a big fan of Jimmy Husband but he missed a sitter that day.
crap happens I cried that day we were odds on to win that cup - even Geoff Astles winning goal he stated it luckily bounced off Colin Harvey's legs, and he just stuck his left foot out with a swipe , and that was us done for!
It could have gone in to row Z and it few in the top corner! we had beaten then 6-2 away about 6 weeks earlier , but TBH we never got going that day!

My other main memory of Burnden Park was the abandoned game I think Boxing Day 1979. Peter Reid got a serious injury playing for them. No chance the game was going to last 90 minutes. Had to walk home from Lime Street to Maghull!!!! Them were the days.
One of a handful of games I went to with my late brother. He wasn't into football but, on this occasion, he was useful for getting to the game. He drove - and the return journey took about 3 hours - freezing.

He also came to Roker Park the week after on the train - standing all the way in a freezing carriage and probably the coldest night match ever. We lost 2-1 - typical.

Just checked on Everton Results. Gave us a 1-1 draw on the 26th December although I suppose that must be the result of the game when it was actually replayed. Was out of the country most of that season.
