In our time, History Extra, Football Weekly, World Football Phone In, The Bugle, Dan Carlin's two podcasts, The Naked Scientists, Guardian Science, All imperative listening for me.

I listen to a lot of health & fitness podcasts.

Vinnie Tortorich
Endurance Planet
Trailrunner Nation
Runner Academy
Marathon Talk
JBST

all brilliant.. give you everything you need to know (just gotta get out there and do it!).

also a couple of F1 podcasts:

Formula1Blog.com podcast
F1weekly.com podcast

Radio eh, love it. custom made for in the car, totally ( nearly ) hands free, just drive ( or sit in the traffic and chill ) and listen.

I'd like to say I remember [Poor language removed] Barton...but I don't

Radio then; That meant 90% of the time The light Program 1500m on the long wave ( more power )
Music while you work
Mrs Dales Dairy ( 1950's soap )
Worker Play time
Wilfred Pickles
Victor Sylvester
The Shipping Forecast
The Archers
Jet Morgan
Cricket - before it was TMS

At the weekend
Saturday;
Children's Favourites
Saturday Club
Sports report at 5.00 with that theme tune. Eamon Andrews telling me Everton had won the League in 1963... I knew, I was there, but legging home to hear it officially on the BBC was half of the fun.

Sunday;
The Archers Omnibus edition
Letter from America ( R 4? )
2 way family favourites ( musical request program for soldiers abroad )
A comedy Program, one of many from;
Educating Archie ( ventriloquism on the radio ffs, but it was the 50's )
Ted Ray
Arthur Askey ( I thangyou )
Jimmy Clitheroe
Dave King
The Navy Lark
The Goon Show
And the classics Beyond our Ken & Round the Horne, Nominally Kenneth Horne urbane smooth front man/straight man/foil
Kenneth Williams and Hugh Paddick camping it up good style, bringing the Bona world to the masses.
Hello I'm Julian and this is my 'friend' Sandy
Then ' The Billy Cotton Show '
Movie Go Round, Introduced with the theme tune 'The Carousel Watlz ' hence the pun in the title
Semprini boring music
Sing something Simple, even more boring music...again it was the 50' and early 60's
Then came the high point of the evening Pick of the pops the top 20 in 60 mins ( was he smashie or nicey... nicey I think )

Starting to sound like the oldies thread here

There was Radio Luxembourg on the Medium wave that kept on fading in and out with the heavyside layer

Then came Pirate Radio and the rest was, as is said history

edit; Mods, GOT. ffs the contraction of Richard is D**k, can't your program sort for context...obviously not, but really.

Radio has always been my favourite media. I've listened to a radio since a young boy, be it football on BBC Radio Merseyside or the national radio station Radio 2 (as was) with Sports Report on a Saturday at 5pm.

I think I got my love of politics from Radio 4, Today Show and Any questions.

Great comedy too.

Almost all the radio I've ever listened to has been talk based, I'm not a great music listener to be honest.

Thought it would be good to have a thread about great radio shows.

Will start with Alistair Cooke's Letter from America.

What a wonderful programme that was.

Interesting memorial lecture on the i-player currently http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05t5jxf

Cracking Thread btw Esk

Monday Night Club on Five Live is good for football chat although it can vary depending on the guests they have on.

Empire Podcast for movie stuff. Main presenter is a kopite but usually pretty funny.

Anybody interested in music composed for films there is a programme on Radio 4, Saturday, at 4.00 - Sound of the Cinema. This week it will be discussing music from spy films. From previous programmes I've listened to it should be interesting.

Now youre talking ! Great Britain has always produced the most brilliant, unique radio programmes and still does! I've been associated with broadcast radio since the 60s and have 'popped up' on lots of shows...all to a high standard and brilliantly entertaining, and with lots of very talented people. The last thing I was associated with was the Radio Two History of Comedy, about 12 months ago, a four parter which evoked lots of the comedy names in degsys post above. Love radio...you can create your own picture in your head...and be entertained, educated, and enlightened with your eyes shut.(not in the car...hopefully!)
