Greatest Gigs

I'd love to have seen The Jam back in the day. I know a fella who started telling me he'd see The Jam when I put them on the jukebox in the local. Far from disbelieving him I was genuinely into the conversation asking what they were like, what was the crowd like etc. Then he said it was at Live Aid ....... "But it was The Style Council that played Live Aid mate, and you're only about 10 years older than me so you went to Live Aid when you were what, 12?" Like most shameless pub liars who get tripped up he took a sip of his pint and gave that thousand yard stare into the distance.

I can just picture him now sliding up to some student in town who's just put Us & Them on on the jukey. "I've seen these live" "Oh nice one mate what gig was it?" "The Great Gig in the Sky"
What I recall from the Royal Court circa 79/80
Can't remember the support acts ,there was 2..
Place full of scallies, pity any out of towners, even across the mersey lids.
Gay Pari was sung by the reds, and a few of us started singing Everton, Everton...
They played funeral pyre and said it was their next single...to a chorus of no1 no1 no1....which it never was.

Lol, in the early 60's the Beatles came to Old Hill Plaza which is a small town in Sandwell in the Black Country. If I'd had a quid off everyone who said they were there that night I could have retired at 60. One work colleague was adamant he had been there but when I worked it out he would have been 11 😆

My Dad swore blind he booked The Beatles for a Caldy Rugby Club do at Chester Jazz Club, but they never turned up cos Please Please Me charted. Or Love Me Do.

Not one of the greatest gigs I've been to, but I did see Nirvana at Reading about a month before Nevermind was released. Only watched them because my mate was always raving about them, and I was all "yeah, yeah" about it, then that album catapulted them into the stratosphere. While I can say I was there, I kind of wish I'd appreciated it a bit more.
