Groucho's Fact Hunt

Jack Parsons, the man primarily responsible for the invention of solid state rocket fuel and one of the people considered key in helping the USA’s space program during its infancy (along with Wernher von Braun), was also a keen occultist.

He founded the California branch of the Thelemite Temple and was close mates with the Thelemite founder Aleister Crowley.

L. Ron Hubbard (of Scientology fame) was also a Thelemite and even lived with Parsons for a time at the California temple, where the two supposedly tried to summon demons and the actual Devil himself, together in various occult rituals with varying degrees of success, if to be believed.

Parsons left the temple after Hubbard ran off with his wife ‘Sara’

He died aged 37 in a laboratory explosion (he was notorious for his dangerous and reckless experimentation on jet and rocket fuel concepts)

He lived a very strange and interesting life.
