Groucho's Fact Hunt

Bo'ness Hippodrome built in 1911 is the oldest purpose built cinema suviving in Scotland today.

I bought tickets yesterday for a screening next week of the new Laurel and Hardy movie as I thought it would be an ideal setting to see it.

Although I live reasonably near to this cinema I have never been but I'm really looking forward to seeing both the Cinema and the film.

The Brucie bonus to this is they have a really good 50's style sit in chippie virtually next door which I'm also looking forward to visiting.

Dennis Hopper’s character in Apocalypse Now is based on Errol Flynn’s son, Sean.

Ha every time I think of Dennis Hopper, I think of him in one of the greatest film scenes ever in my view. Opposite Christopher Walken, in the feel good / gangster film, True Romance, great soundtrack behind that scene to. One of my favourite ever films, fantastic star studded cast.

Michael Jackson wrote Blame it on the Boogie.

Why’s that a fact? Well I’m glad you asked.

It’s not the Mike Jackson that you think it is.

The Liver Building was the tallest in the UK between 1911 and 1961.
Sadly cannot be so = Salisbury Cathedral spire is 123 m, and a bit older (1549). I don't know if that was still the tallest in 1911, but the Liver Building is 98.2m to the top of the spires. I think it was the tallest building in Liverpool until they topped off the Anglican cathedral (101m).

That said, interesting website "A Timeline of the UK's Tallest Buildings" at https://www.arcgis.com/apps/MapTour...cdd11&webmap=9fdc494f5af741818d526bad94ffe521 says at 90m the Liver Building was the tallest "building" until the Shell centre opened in London in 1961.

Perhaps it depends what you measure to the top of, but the Liver Building is just 50.9 m (167 ft) to the main roof, according to Wikipedia.

Can't believe anything you read on the internet these days.....

As confirmed recently by two Russian tourists visiting Salisbury and quoting how tall the spire is.
