Groucho's Fact Hunt

View attachment 53164

Bo'ness Hippodrome built in 1911 is the oldest purpose built cinema suviving in Scotland today.

I bought tickets yesterday for a screening next week of the new Laurel and Hardy movie as I thought it would be an ideal setting to see it.

Although I live reasonably near to this cinema I have never been but I'm really looking forward to seeing both the Cinema and the film.

The Brucie bonus to this is they have a really good 50's style sit in chippie virtually next door which I'm also looking forward to visiting.

Just back from here, had a good day, great cinema, really gives you the feel of how the cinema's were when I was a kid, won't spoil the film for others, other than to say Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly played Stan and Ollie brilliantly and certainly captured the spirit of the pair, there were bits that made me LOL and a couple of bits I unashamedly shed a tear at, well worth watching IMO.

Some serious diseases, like cancer, can be smelt by animals and even humans.

A woman recognised a change of smell in her husband when he developed Parkinson's (actually years before the diagnosis), and has demonstrated this ability in subsequent tests.

Promising development as diagnosing these illnesses early is a huge challenge and part of the reason why they kill so many.

Yes dogs are being trained to warn their diabetic owners as to their blood sugar levels...they smell the changes

Record High and Record Low in One Day

Oklahoma City accomplished a rare feat on November 11, 1911.

Warm air ahead of a cold front allowed the afternoon temperature that day to reach a record high of 28.3C.

Then, the sharp cold front sliced through the Heartland and dropped temperatures in an extreme way. Just before midnight, the low temperature bottomed out at a record of -8.3C. This is a total drop of 30 degrees celsius from the record high to the record low.

Both of these temperature records for November 11 remain intact more than 100 years later.

Springfield, Mo. was another city that set a record high and record low on this same day in 1911.

An hour-long break for lunch would've been wild in the next city.
