Groucho's Fact Hunt

That's fine, but can you explain salmiakki? I tried it and once and couldn't believe it was something people would voluntarily eat. Is it something that most everyone in Finland likes? Or is it something only some people will eat, like blue cheese in the US or stinky tofu in China?
Salmiakki is a peculiar-one, isn't it... TBH almost all the Finns at least tolerate it. Having lived over 12 yrs in Eastern Africa never did we run out of that stuff b/c without asking every Finn visiting always brought some. Both of my daughters (7 & 10) love it so, yeah, it must be somehow a cultural thing.

I'm not that great fan of it but a shot of salmiakki-vodka goes down any time...

It is made from Turkish pepper .Try it with a drop of baileys about 25% baileys .It is called a grandmother's slipper.

That mushroom grows mainly in south-western Finland. It's true that almost every year some poor b*st*rd does eat those and, well, dies with a liver etc failure. Lately those victims have however been comin' from abroad, Thailand and so on. They're brought here to pick the stuff from the forest, berries and such for 30 Euros/day...

Just finished the biology-course with my 5th graders and hammered in hard the lesson "do not pick/eat the mushrooms you don't recognise".

Makaronilaatikko with ketchup is a real treat...
No other way to eat it ,love it .
I pick lots of mushrooms with my wife and even after 20 years still pick an odd one that is inedible but the wife sorts them .It has been drilled into me that we don't pick any white mushrooms .There are enough of the others to eat

Trawling through Youtube and came across a video of 'The Comedians'. Charlie Williams was on. Reminded me that he was a professional footballer with Doncaster Rovers. I played against him when he was player/manager of Denaby United in the Yorkshire League. He was centre-half, I was centre-forward. I had about 6 inches height advantage but he was a tough little b****r. I knew I had been in a game by the final whistle. That, obviously, was before he made his name as a comedian.

How would you know ?
Spectroscopy is pretty good at detecting and identifying molecules so long as light passes through them on their way to earth. Isobutyl ethanoate and ethyl formate are esters that give raspberries their scent/flavour.

If the telescopes have identified these chemicals bobbing around in a cloud, it's reasonable to suggest it would taste of raspberries.
