There are a number of theories as to the origin of the phrase 'Mind your p's and q's'. My favourites is to do with being mindful of how much alcohol one was consuming in taverns a long time back. Pints and quarts being p's and q's.

Also having read through this thread it's a fact that Groucho would be a good man to have on a pub quiz team.

The word............ Rhythms........... is the longest word without using a vowel.

Some would say the "y" acts as a vowel in this case. But bookkeeper is the only word with three consecutive sets of double letters in the English language.

Which is why, at the recommendation of my counsellor, I have a giant folder on my laptop named "Happy" that has pictures of puppies and dogs (as I lack the real deal here in the UK) that I look at when I'm feeling crap.

Does that count as a random fact?

One of the most iconic photos ever taken - raising the Russian flag on the Reichstag in Berlin after the Russians had just captured the city / the end of WW2.

Recorded history tells us that the soldier who raised the flag was Melton Kantari, a Georgian.

The reality is that, a flag was intially raised from the roof of the Reichstag by Alexi Kovalev a Lieutenant of a reconnaissance platoon and one of the first soldiers to reach the Reichstag. However his platoon was beaten back by the Germans and was not photographed.

Later on the same day another flag was raised from the roof again by a common Ukraniian soldier - Mikhail Minin.

However Stalin as a Georgian Russian wanted another Georgian to be photographed raising the flag and the actual photograph is of Georgian soldier - Meliton Kantari, who was given the flag to pose with it for Russian propaganda purposes .
