I think -thwaite is another Viking suffix, too, as well as -by mentioned earlier.More correctly, that there was a fortified place there when the Saxons got that far.
I've heard that's untrue...On your fuel gauge on your car's dashboard there is a picture of a petrol pump, there should be an arrow next to the pic, this arrow indicates which side of your car the petrol filler cap is on.
( this applies to most modern cars apparently )
