I think Harold's mother (Earl Godwin's wife) was Danish.Harold Godwinson (Harold II) whose army was defeated by William the conqueror in 1066 was the last English/UK monarch to be descended from an English family, apparently. Every monarch since has descended from a foreign family, according to a documentary I recently watched. I'm taking their word for it, as I can't be arsed investigating all of their family trees.

The red and white colours of his clothing are derived from the red and white traditional bishops robes worn by St Nicholas, who was the Bishop of Myra in the fourth century and was legendary for his kindness to poor children.
In 1863 - 1836 Harper's weekly ran images of Father Christmas, creating the concept of elves working a workshop for him too. However the images they used portrayed him as skinny and elf like.
Then Coca Cola got involved and from the early 1930's created the current version of Father Christmas co of the Swedish artist - Haddon Sundblom, to advertise Coke. Fur trimming and a belt was added as part of the outfit. These ads ran for thirty years and have helped shape the image globally of Father Christmas to this day.
