Groucho's Fact Hunt

David Lloyd George, our only Prime Minister who was Welsh and himself a Welsh speaker, was born near Manchester!

And Dan Snow, the television presenter/history enthusiast, is a great great grandson of his.

The "katzenklavier" (cat piano) was a musical instrument to be made entirely from cats. Designed by 17th-century German scholar Athanasius Kircher, it consisted of a row of caged cats with different voice pitches, who could be "played" by a keyboardist driving nails into their tails.

It's not proven whether the design was built or remained on the drawing board.

TV chef Gino D'Acampo served 2 years in clink in '98 for breaking into the home of Paul Young (Every Time You Go [You Take A Piece Of Meat With You]).

He also is the holder of several Guinness World Records, including "running across custard for the longest time", "most jumpers put on in 1 minute", and "most champagne bottles opened in 1 minute".

This is not a wind up.

Children's author - Lewis Carroll ( real name Charles Lutwidge Dodson was born in the village of Daresbury in 1832 - just outside Runcorn.

All Saints Church in Daresbury has a memorial stained glass window dedicated to Carroll .

Carroll was a professor of maths at Oxford University and it is said that his inspiration for Alice in Wonderland came from the time he spent with the College Deans three daughters.

Carroll possibly would have formed part of Operation Yew Tree had he been alive today, as he was a keen photographer. One his favourite subject matters being naked and semi naked children !.
