What goes against Messi for me is that he's only ever done it in a fantastic Barca side and a pub league with PSG.

Spain was a deeper league for a lot of that as well. It's only in the last 5 years or so that the PL has really taken firm control.

It makes a difference because you could just enjoy those older great players for being great and there wasn’t an endless argument about who was better. I doubt there were hugely insecure Eusebio fanboys who had to trash every other great player to boost their own self-esteem. It’s not about which player is actually better.
