What goes against Messi for me is that he's only ever done it in a fantastic Barca side and a pub league with PSG.

Ronaldo has smashed it in England, Spain, Italy and achieved more on the international stage.

He has destroyed more or less every big club in the Champions League. The idea he would have struggled against mid-lower table clubs from England and Italy is mental.

Spain was a deeper league for a lot of that as well. It's only in the last 5 years or so that the PL has really taken firm control.

Poland looked like a Championship side against Saudi Arabia today, who should've actually won the game easy. If Poland go through, that's going to dilute the quality of the ro16 this WC.

I don't rate Poland but saying they dilute it when the Saudis and Mexico are also crap is a bit silly

So, I pay exactly no attention to teams not called everton, so world cups are always a revelation in terms of players having a second national affiliation beyond the obvious one.

Announcer was going on about maticeusz during the gamearlier today, and only after half time did I catch on it was Matty cash. Straight over my head.

Seeing as these measures didn't apply in their day it seems rather unfair to judge just those who's day they do apply?
It makes a difference because you could just enjoy those older great players for being great and there wasn’t an endless argument about who was better. I doubt there were hugely insecure Eusebio fanboys who had to trash every other great player to boost their own self-esteem. It’s not about which player is actually better. It’s a bunch of kids who need to feel superior about glory hunting.

Good story behind the boy Cash, at 17 working at River Island, career over. Few years later he's playing in a world cup.

Good on the lad.

He's not achieved more unless you just ignore Copa America

Argentina has had a plethora of top players Messi has played alongside though - easy to find space when you have the likes of Aguero, Tevez and Di Maria alongside you.

Ronaldo has carried a bang average Portugal side on his back on many occasions.

118 goals to Messi's 90 odd.

Similiar quality but only a fut hipster chooses Messi over Ronaldo imo.

Ronaldo all round player - left foot, right foot, can score with his heed, jumps like a salmon - whatever you need.

You might want to check the graph above. Scoring loads against the Andorra’s of this world doesn’t mean as much.
