During most of Ronaldo/Messi's time in football the PL has been the strongest/biggest league in the world.

Its like claiming someone who plays American Football is the best quarterback of all time yet they never played in the NFL.

So should we be talking about Jamie Vardy being in contention too then? Your logic is massively flawed and shows your age tbh

The 2nd part of your post is LOL

Messi is comfortably a better player than Ronaldo. Your own eyes tell you that and nobody should be having a convo about it.

So they did nothing against those English teams in the champions league over a decade and a half?

Those 2 have been better than their peers for years.

Wenger called messi ‘unplayable’ when arsenal played Barca. Doubt that opinion would change if messi had ever played in the premier league. Your assertion that you can’t be judged unless you’ve played in the premier league is bullish;t. Were iniesta and Xavi not ‘greats’ either then?

I can't agree with that. La Liga has been the best league in the world for the best part of 20 years. The Champions League and Europa League results - as good a measure as any - show that. It's probably only been since Ronaldo and then Messi left Spain that the Premier League has taken over. The timeline as I see it: Germany 1975-1983, Italy 1984-2000, Spain 2001-2017, England 2018-

Agree with that, although the Germany 75-83 assertion isn’t valid really, as you had the RS, forest and villa win European cups in that era.

Bayern won the European Cup in 74, 75, and 76. HSV won it in 83. Mönchengladbach were in the final in 1977, HSV in 1980. Mönchengladbach won the UEFA Cup in 1975 and 1979, and were runners-up in 1980 when Eintracht Frankfurt won it - a year in which all four semi-finalists were German. Bayern lost the European Cup final in 1982, the same year as HSV lost the UEFA Cup final. HSV won the Cup Winners Cup in 1977 and Fortuna Dusseldorf made the final in '79. At the same time, Kevin Keegan of HSV won the Ballon d'Or twice and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at Bayern won it in 1980 and 1981. Allan Simonsen of Gladbach won it in '77 meaning the Bundesliga had the Ballon d'Or winner every year from 1976 - Beckenbauer - to 1981 when Rummenigge won his second. England had great Euro success too at this time, but the Bundesliga was arguably the stronger league at the time at least in terms of top players. Throw in West Germany's 1980 Euro success and it was without doubt a top destination league during those years.

Agreed but talk of Messi being better and even the best of all time when he's never played outside of Spain other than for the best team in an average French league is ludicrous.

Both have been the 2 best players in the world over the last decade or so but head to head you have to give it to the guy who's dominated in England, Spain and Italy over the one who's only done it at one of the big 2 clubs in Spain imo.

You talk as if CR7 turned out for Bolton.

Utd were very good back then but Barca were all round superior imo.

In recent history the big 3 leagues have been: England, La Liga & Serie A.

One player has smashed it in all 3
One player has smashed it in just 1

To suggest Messi is the better I just cant agree with. He may well be but never took the opportunity to prove that to the world of football.

A lot of the Messi love is because Ronaldo is a shameless character off the field - if he was a tax dodging argie pumped full of growth hormones more would prefer him whereas for all his greatness his public image is soured for being petulant / accused of some rather unsavoury tings.

Mate stop it

A player doesn’t need to move around to other countries to show his stuff. Especially since that player has a superb record from playing in the CL against the best sides from around Europe and the best sides in their leagues.

Nobody is denying Ronaldo isn’t one of the best goal scorers in history, but goal scoring isn’t a measure of how good a player is.

Messi not only matches Ronaldo in scoring, it’s also his sheer amount of assists and ability with the ball that make him another level above Ronaldo, and a better player.

The guy is a genius and your eyes tell you that.

I dont think theres much in it, both have stellar records.

Diego was miles better than both.
