Guardiola to be found out in the premier league

City’s defence of their title has been nothing short of embarrassing. Last year all you heard was everyone jizzing over the so called “ best PL team ever” and this season they defend their crown about as well as Prince Andrew defended the allegations that he was a nonce.

A team with unlimited funds and the best manager of his generation crumbling because of an injury to one defender is unbelievable.
Not sure where the RS would have been with a long term injury to VVD

Sane, Laporte, fernandinho, KDB and i think Jesus have all bee in and out of the club with injury this season. They have been hampered.

Remember the team they put out against the RS had 4/5 regular first 11 missing and they were stitched up by VAR in not being awarded a penalty.

This was always going to be the RS' year. The media decided. VVD. Alisson and Mane helped it along along with every official in the country.

Aye, a perfect storm was created for them, so many factors came to be.

What hampered them is peps ego not allowing him to go out and buy some actual defenders instead of relaying on the likes of zinchenko and Mendy or a 40 year old Fernandinho to play cb. They barely scraped by last year with kompany dragging them over the line, you could see this coming

Not sure if he's been found out, but even last night's game shows his teams are always vulnerable to being hit on the counter at pace. There's a reason he's suffered some very heavy defeats in the latter stages of the Champions League with his teams.

Be interesting to see how these do next season.

Shocking centre halves, average left backs, David Silva on his way, De Bruyne always seeming to be injured, Aguero not getting any younger, potentially kicked out of Europe.

Not ideal really as they are the only ones with a realistic chance of beating the cretins next year IMO.

I think there is a bit more than that to it to be fair.
Finishing second in the League after winning it 2 years in a row is no disgrace.
Over the previous 2 seasons we have racked up 198 points and won 5 trophies.
It simply is not possible to sustain that level of achievement indefinitely.
As I stated in a post on another thread and without making any excuses VAR
has been a significant factor in this seasons performance. It has gifted Liverpool
at least 12 points - and that is being conservative. We have been comprehensively
shafted by VAR this season. That is without doubt (winning goal against Spurs
early in the season and away to Liverpool when we should have had a penalty
and they went straight down the other end to score - to name just two of many instances).
The problem undoubtedly has been the defence. We never replaced Kompany and then Laporte
was out for a big chunk of the season which is a serious contributing factor also.
Pep then moved Fernandinho into that role which he isn't suited to and we missed
him badly as probably one the best defensive midfielders in the PL. As for the last 3
seasons our fullbacks have been a constant cause of concern and this hasn't been
properly addressed. Therein lies the problem: The defence. Otamendi & John Stones
are simply not at the level that they are required to be. Pep plays the game in a
manner where the attack is the defence. This season we also lost Sane which is huge
miss and we have been less than clinical in front of goal (last night being another prime
example). Also, don't forget that we have already bagged another trophy this season and are still
very much in the mix for another two so hardly an embarrassing season. As for the money side
of things - we do not have unlimited funds as the media narrative likes to push. We pulled
out of deals for Hazard, McGuire and a couple more once the money got silly. Our level is
circa £50 to £60 million not the £80 to £100 million. Basically we lost 8 games including Norwich
and managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in a few more which is just not
acceptable if you want to win / retain the title.

I'm sure most City fans and the vast majority of fans from other clubs would accept a Liverpool PL trophy
if they would finish with two domestic trophies and a CL trophy. So, disappointed not to win
the PL title 3 years on the bounce? Yes. Embarrassing? Not really.

Looking from afar I sort of get the impression that you've been prioritising the CL this season too. Would that be a fair assumption? From what I remember you've been pretty consistent in that throughout the season unlike in the PL.

The answer to that is definitely yes. Particularly as it looks like we are getting kicked out of it next month for a couple of years. Pep and the owners have always stated that the CL is the #1 priority.
Whilst 99.9% of the fans prioritise the PL.

Barely won the title last season and made no effort to improve his defence and midfield last summer.

Probably thought he was the reason they won rather than having the best squad in the world. Liverpool were amazing, City's title defence was just embarrassing though.

Refs/VAR and media being for one certain team the entire time didn't help mind.
