Guardiola to be found out in the premier league

Not sure why they’ve bought Ruben Diaz either. They could afford anyone in world football if they wanted it. They should be putting bids in for Varane Kimpembe Upemacano Koulibaly. Instead Pep seems intent on buying players most people haven’t heard of. What happened to the City that brought in Tevez Aguero Silva Yaya Toure Dzeko in order to make a statement? Pep is treating them as some sort of vanity project now. ‘Watch me buy a load of players no one has heard of, play them all out of position, and still win because I’m so good’

FINALLY, someone else whose pointed this out!

A club of their resources and finance should be going for top top players. Their recent big money transfers have been a complete waste- Rodri, Cancelo, Ake, Mahrez, etc...

They would have been better off spending all that cash on-

Marquinhos (miles better than just about any of their center backs), Reguilon, Lautaro Martinez (perfect successor to Aguero), Thiago (why they didn't go for him is truely behind me), Saint Allan Maxim (pacy, hard working winger with brillant dribbling skills)...

All of these players would have made a MASSIVE impact for them and dare I say, closer to Pool...

Koulibaly is 29 and Dias is what, 23? I think the likes of Gimenez would have been a better buy even at twice the price never mind the 75m quoted but Dias isn't, I think, a terrible signing. I daresay they need several back there though so maybe they'll be picking up a bit more quality. They'll need it.

I wonder if anyone has ever mentioned to this ludicrous, slaphead, that the art of coaching and management is to improve the players at your disposal, that you either inherited or ALREADY BOUGHT YOURSELF, instead of wanting 100m+ every Summer to replace toss that has gone backwards under his tutelage?
I see he wants a new left back as well now.

Its over for pep, not once in his career has he ever built a side. He inherited world class players at barca, he inherited the best side in Europe at bayern and all their key players were heynekes, all the key players at city were mancini or pellagrini players aside from ederson. He is clearly a superb coach but has never built or rebuilt a squad.

this is spot he - despite spending a billion, he hasnt added a single linchpin to the team. Signings pre Pep:

Toure, Silva, Ageuro, Sterling, KDB, Kompany & Fernandinho & as each of them fall away his team have become worse.

Are you suggesting the Newcastle winger Maximin? He literally has no end product and is at newcastle for a reason. Would take Mahrez every day over him.

This all goes back to their 2-2 draw against Spurs, which I think was their first home game last season. Pre-season (last season), when sky did their bit at the refs center of excellence one of the key call outs was cynical fouls becoming an automatic yellow card.

In the first half of that game, Sterling gets booked for the classic Pep foul, looks baffled and the head goes down, same happens a couple of mins later. Spurs then score two on the break and the game finished 2-2.

This challenge, along with the loss of the master of Pep's dark arts(fernandinho), to centreback really really hit them hard. Essentially they lost their cheat mode, to use a gaming comparison. Everytime they lost the ball under pep, they just pulled someone down and took the foul

This is still a huge problem for them now and simply if a team turns the ball over high up the pitch or even in Midfield they are goosed, they could have Paul McGrath and Beckenbauer as their centre halfs, but if you leave them that exposed, it is going to cause huge hassle.

The same exact thing was said for Sadio Mane when he played for Southampton. In a lower quality side, it's almost always tough to excel and rack up tons of goals and assists.

Mahrez is one of those luxury players who only thrives IF you build the team around him (similar to Ozil or Coutinho). Not to mention, when compared to the wingers Guardiola had in his previous clubs (Pedro, Henry, Robben, Ribery), he simply doesn't hold a patch...

I disagree and cant imagine anyone said that about Mane when he was at Saints considering in the 2 season with them he scored 10 and assisted 3 in his first season and then scored 11 and assisted 6 in his second.

Whereas maximin had 3 goals and 5 assists (3 of which came in one game against a dire Bournemouth after lockdown).

I dont remember Leicester building a team around Mahrez. Pretty sure he was a cog in their team that won the league alongside players like schmeichel, Morgan, Vardy, chilwell and Kante. And to say he doesnt hold a patch to those other players after suggesting he should have got maximin is hilarious.

He literally can’t take teams going toe to toe with him. Now the league isn’t pyar crap and teams aren’t beaten before a ball is kicked he’s floundering
