Guardiola to be found out in the premier league

I agree with your point to an extent as they should be winning with what they've spent, however look at Citeh under Pellegrini or Mancini.

Both managers also spent vast amounts and perhaps Pep has arguably built upon this, but the football they're playing is clearly on another level.

What about Manure who spent a comparable amount to Citeh in the window? Or Chelsea? They've also invested heavily in recent seasons.

I think the point some people are trying to make (including myself) is that it's not that they're in front but how spectacular they are doing it.

Chelsea havent spent what City or United have spent for many a year, and when they did, they walked the league around 2004/05, broke all sorts of records.

Yes they spend money, but only comparible to the arsenals and liverpools of this world

Though I don't think the fact he's worked at exclusively big clubs detracts from his achievements, I do think it will ultimately be taken into account when it comes to judging the all-time best manager

Compared to Ferguson, who earned his chops at Aberdeen turning them into a powerhouse both domestically and in Europe whilst having to deal with the two Old Firm giants before getting the Man United gig, he's had a much easier time of it

That being said, the expectations of managing Barcelona, Bayern and City are way and above what Ferguson had to contend with when he was managing The Dons, so that deserves consideration also

There's no doubting that Guardiola is an excellent coach though, he just doesn't have a Porto or Aberdeen to his name like Mourinho or Ferguson do. Barcelona B doesn't count IMO, because it's youth football. Yes, it showed he was a decent coach, and yes he was playing senior sides in the second tier, but again he had perhaps the best youth project in the world to work with. He has never had to start from scratch, even though Barcelona weren't champions when he first took over. He still had a squad most people would be envious of

Hadnt they just won the CL under Rijkaard when he took over?

Was it the season after that he came in?

Regardless, he was hardly inheriting a bad side

Yes, he made them better no doubt, but it wasn't as if he took over a team of ham and eggers

As someone previously has said, Fergie took Aberdeen past the old firm and won a european trophy, Clough took a team from the 2nd division to european champions, Mourinho won both the uefa cup and the champions league with Porto (which if you look at it nowe is such an achievment)

To be fair though, when Pep got offered the Barca job, he wouldnt of turned it down saying "no i need to get Levante to win the champions league first", but there will always be that question mark that he was given the opportunity other managers who may be just as skilled havent had

Chelsea wouldn't have even had to spend that if Mourinho hadn't gone mad and sold off a load of their better players - KDB, Rom, Mata, Salah etc

No. They had won nothing and finished 18pts shy of Real Madrid. Pep's work with Barcelona gets heavy doses of hindsight, but nobody saw that treble winning season coming, especially as they lost their first match with him in charge as far as I can recall

Ahhhh they did win the champions league with Rijkard though didnt they?
As i was trying to say, its not as if he had took over a bunch of no marks

No but a team that was performing far below capabilities, Rijkaard has lost the dressing room and first thing Pep did was move those involved, who also happened to be key players

Busquets was unheard of from the 4th division and was played ahead of Yaya. Similar for Pedro, Jeffren and Sanchez from that same 4th division team

They played well in preseason and showed glimpses of what it would become against Boca in a last minute winning Gamper. But they struggled to execute Pep’s plan in the first 2 Primera matches- when asked in the post match what he planned to do differently he responded with attack, attack, attack

And that’s just what they did
