2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Potentially more to come from him I feel if he can maintain an injury-free run, and play with other players increasing in confidence in a more settled side and formation.

I said at the beginning of the season that he is capable of 12-15 goals and maintain that view.

He is absolutely vital in a side without an out and out striker, and one that still struggles generally for goals.

I hope he gets a big boost from Saturday, and credit to him for responding in that manner after the penalty. That first goal was superb technically.

99.9% of football stats are nonsense.

See how easy it is?

Yeah I remember them in the 80's and thought it was stupid at the time too as football is not a sport that lends itself to stats. It's an easy con because clubs will do anything to even gain what they see to be a tiny advantage.

The only thing that stood out for my regarding Sigurdsson this past week was that he could have put some pressure on the Arsenal player after Davies had cleared the ball for their first goal. Apart from that I think he is generally alright, not great, not awful.
You're being ridiulous there mate. Stats are facts that are used to interpret and provide an opinion. They aren't made up numbers. Just because you don't like to use them because of whatever reason doesn't mean they can't be used by others to provide an opinion.
Statistics can be grossly manipulated to prove or disprove anything you want to show.

I remain sceptical of stats on the whole although I’m sure they have a value somewhere.

The Everton fanbase needs to get past this thing where they complain about Gylfi’s price tag or put too much emphasis on his limitations athletically. We have one of the premier chance creators in England on our side and he should be considered absolutely undroppable at this point. He has fully justified his price tag in a way that has nothing to do with scoring two goals on Saturday.

Nice to see RBM have taken Ricky under their wing.

The article does go a bit OTT at times but the sentiment is right. There are people who just, bizarrely, don't see his quality.

Sigurdsson did better on Saturday, but the article pointing out why he was so good, and therefore why they can't understand why he has been getting stick, doesn't make sense. He's been getting stick because he hasn't been doing what he did on Saturday, notably, shooting.

He has been anonymous in the aspect for some time, and even when he has, it has been lacklustre. To the point whereby some kid behind us shouted as he approached to take the penalty, "He'll hit the wall".

Everton have very rarely had someone with the ability, or at least the inclination, to shoot from long range for a long time, while other teams generally have several, and it's those moments of brilliance that can be the difference in breaking teams down. The last person to score a free kick for us was Lukaku. The only other player at the club to score a free kick is Baines, and last time he scored was Lukakus debut against West Ham (albeit he scored 2 and both were peaches).

When we signed Sigurdsson, i believed we had finally signed someone who could be that difference maker, and he showed glimpses of what he could do last year, but far too infrequently, which is all the more frustrating in games when we have struggled, that someone with his skill set has stood idly by and not took the responsibility to provide us with that ability to break a deadlock. And its not like he's tried and been unlucky, a lot of the time he simply hasn't even tried.

On Saturday, he broke the deadlock with a sublime bit of skill out of nothing. Sometimes that can be the difference between winning a game, and losing as the crowds toxic frustration slowly takes hold and we capitulate. Even taking the shot and narrowly missing often gives the crowd a lift. It's not rocket science.

Hopefully these goals combined with the growing confidence of the team can see a turnabout in fortunes, both individually and collectively. And him finally taking responsibility is an important step in the right direction.

delighted for Sigurdsson to get those goal - great finishes and was instrumental in the build up of both. Really hope he kicks on coz he is great footballer who always puts a shift in

That's exactly it.

If he plays even near what he did in that second half on a more regular basis, then he doesn't get stick from me.

The fact is he hasn't been doing it. Objectively that is too - the stats show he barely touches the ball most games and he doesn't work hard enough to get into positions that you need a number ten to do so, so that you can transition from midfield to attack.

Richarlison and Bernard are going to be absolutely vital to Sigurdsson. When neither of those two play, he's hopeless - when they do (specifically Richarlison thus far obviously) then Sigurdsson has been better.
