..I think you have to accept him for the ‘type’ he is. He’s not a ball carrying midfielder, he’s not going to dictate games but he’ll look to get on the end of things and be a danger in the top third. He’ll be effective because he’s capable of winning games like he did on Saturday.

Exactly...he's more Lampard than, dare I say it Stevie G.I could never understand the arguments about whether England could play both in the same team. They were entirely different types of player.

I think what he said was true tbh. We've had series of managers who have coached tactics, but not players. I think this guy we have now does both.

It's a massive shame that Barkley isn't coming through our system now. He'd be the BTB midfielder we're crying out for.

I took Barkleys comments as a positive.
We have had over 4 years of poor management after a very promising start under Roberto.

The best players left Stones, Lukaku etc

If we really want to succeed we have to build an ethos with players to fit a system.
Round pegs in round holes and have a team that goes onto the pitch with belief and to entertain.

Start winning Away at the top sides again and the momentum can eventually lead to success. Long way to go, but I at least can see a gameplan for the 1st time in years.

It is nice to see that the game plan is much more than don’t lose.

Bingo mate. An identity.
Which, despite all his failings, is why I loved Roberto.
He had a vision, a way of playing. In the end, strictly in my opinion, he didn't have the transfer kitty to realise that vision and plug the gaps of his weaknesses (defensively) as Klopp has done with Allison and Van Dijk.
With Marco working with players like Sig, we could be onto something here.
Or we lose against Palace and the fume resumes.

Just you wait for that 4-0 drubbing by Palace.

The problem with Martinez was the fact he completely contradicted his own philosophy by playing technically deficient players like Naismith and Kone while the likes of Deulofeu sat on the bench.

Agree mostly, but also Roberto's stubbornness got the better of him (plus, he could have signed VVD, but went for Mori instead... stuff like that).
