Debunked

Sigurdsson's first 37 PL matches for Swansea:

- 2.04 chances per 90 from open play
- 61 out of 97 chances from open play
- 12 out of 13 assists from open play
- Averaging 37 passes per match

This season he averages 1.20 chances per 90 min from open play, only 24 passes per match.

Ross Barkley averages 45 passes per match, 47% more than Sigurdsson. Yet only creates 22% more from open play?

When Sigurdsson averaged 37 passes per match (17.8% less) he created 24.6% more chances despite averaging fewer passes. (0.50 more)

How does this compare to other PL Playmakers?

KDB: 2.13 chances per 90 from open play (2017/18)
- 3083 minutes, 37 matches, 73 open play chances, 72 passes per match.

Eriksen: 1.87 chances per 90 from open play (2017/18)
- 3226 minutes, 37 matches, 67 open play chances, 60 passes per match.

Despite averaging 250-300% more passes per match than him they & still don't outperform him from open play.

Your data is based on his two seasons as a winger at Swansea & for us last season; Proving that you're clutching at straws.

YES hello Rick and welcome back x

Watched the first four clips in that and all of them should have resulted in goals.

This nonsense that he doesn't create needs to stop.

When we get the ball into him, he makes stuff happen. Lately he hasn't been playing brilliantly but has still created.

Also, hello Rick.

Hi Rick

Your boy is still gash.

Also, he’s m been missing for the last 12 weeks so if you see him when out stalking, tell him to report for duty.

Not really sure how I'm grasping at any straws there, Tubes.

Watch the vid and tell me that those first four chances he either set up or played the 'key pass' (not that I like that term really) shouldn't have resulted in goals.

One's a tap-in, the others are throughballs into Walcott one-v-one.

The problem is its' a highlight video. I could make a video several hours long of him doing sod all, game after game.

Indeed, that's his problem - his sustained inaction with moments of genius. His weighted through ball for Richarlison the other week was a thing of beauty and perfect for a YouTube video - but the weeks of utter crap he's offered isn't as suited to a clip, is it?

Much like Bolasie, he's a "Match Of The Day" player, where the pundits will wax lyrical about one moment of inspiration and gloss over everything else, because him being anonymous isn't entertaining.

I'd say 'could' have resulted in goals rather than 'should'. The Liverpool one in particular, while an excellent ball, is not an easy chance. It's a good finish if he scores, and the Arsenal one the ball to create the tap in is played by Richarlison, we can't really say Sigurdsson's ball should create a goal there. They're nice pieces of play, but I've said before, the amount of good chances you create will invariably be reflected in the amount of assists you end up with. For every nice pass that doesn't get finished there'll be a 5 yard pass to someone who skins 2 players and bangs one in from 30 yards, it evens out.

Fair enough. I think the DCL one v Arsenal should have been, tbf. It's three yards out of an empty goal. I did stress for that one in my reply to Tubey that it was a key pass - not an assist.

And fairs on the Liverpool one. It was a hard chance.

Those other two into Walcott should be goals. If you're one v one, you should score.
