But he's not scoring enough important goals,no good when we are getting beaten by Soton or laced by Spurs.
What a strange criticism.

Yes he's top scorer but he isn't scoring enough "important goals" despite what was said earlier that he has won us 9 of our 30 points with his goals. Are you gonna use the same criticism with the other players?

Other players are allowed to score as well and if some of them *cough* Walcott *cough* could finish sitters then Sigurdsson would be on more assists. I know he's been crap in recent weeks and he does go missing but this season overall he's been fine.

People keep going on about him scoring goals, yes it's bloody helpful due to the fact nobody else in our entire squad seems to be able to finish properly but he's not actually in the team to score goals. He is in the team to be our creative player and technical guy as such, and so far, for the 9 goals he has scored he only has 3 assists which is rubbish for a £45m attacking midfield player imo, and that is before you even get started on his set pieces, he came here billed as a specialist and he can barely clear the wall or first man from a free kick or corner. I would like to see him drop further back and play instead of Gomes who despite being the better player, i don't think has the physical attributes for this league.

You’re right. It was Gylfis fault we conceded all those goals. Let’s consider blaming the actual offenders for conceding soft goals to put us in the position where you’re seemingly expecting Gylf to score 7 goals in a game.

He's scored two match winning goals against Cardiff and Leicester, given he's one of our key players giving credit for being top scorer when goals against United,Spurs and Soton were of no value is an odd defense of him.

I agree he should've realised the games were over against United and Spurs and just skied the chances. No point scoring a goal is there? What a weird attitude to have.

You're moaning about the top scorer scoring goals, I proper don't know what your point is.

My point is,I like him as a player but as many others in the side he isn't performing to the level he should be.Posters saying "but he's our top scorer" doesn't change that.

Yeah, thats fine. He has been poor recently but so have every single one of them, anyone can see that. But I do think that his goals show that he has contributed more this season than most of the others.

The problem is that he is our record signing and for around 50m we should be able to expect more than we are getting. We totally overpaid for him giving probably twice his real worth.
He is a senior player in the team and should be leading by example but in so many games he just seems to be on the periphery too much. It isn't a lack of effort or commitment and he certainly has scored a good number of goals but it is hard to describe exactly his role in the team.

As @ArtetaMoney has just pointed out, his goals have 'directly' contributed to us having a third of the points we currently have.

He’s turned up and genuinely won us the game twice this season - Leicester and Fulham. Twice in 23 games, that is not good enough considering how much people mess their pants over him and fall over themselves to call him our best player.

For the price we paid he really has been pretty average, he goes missing to much.

Would he actually get a starting berth for any team in the top 6?

Not everyone who thinks he's a good player thinks he's ace though, mate?

He definitely has his limitations, but going forward he's one of our most creative players - he's definitely our most creative midfielder - and is our top scorer. Now people are brushing off goals as 'meh stats'. It's ludicrous.

The lad isn't playing well at the moment. Whether that's him or the system or other players, is a matter of opinion. Personally, I think it's clearly a mix of all three, which can be said for pretty much every player in the squad at the moment.

Last year he got criticised for not creating or scoring enough. This year he's scored 10, assisted 3 or 4 and created the second-most chances behind Digne (whose are obviously all crosses which is fine).

The criticism now is he doesn't get involved enough. It's correct to an extent, but he also needs other players to get him the ball when he's playing as a striker, which is what he is doing at the moment. That's a system issue.

Now, that's not to say he shouldn't be a lot better when he gets the ball because recently he hasn't been good.

None of our players would, which is why we're not in the top 6.

He has set up about 6 or 7 gilt-edged chances that other players have missed.

Off the top of my head...

Walcott v Southampton
Walcott v Arsenal
Walcott v Palace
Bernard v Man Utd
Bernard v Chelsea (six yards out he missed from)
Richarlison v Liverpool

That's not including the two below that weren't sitters but Walcott should have done better from

Walcott v Chelsea
Walcott v Liverpool

That's also not including the countless times Zouma or Keane have headed over from six yards out from a corner or free-kick.

He should be doing better than he is all round at the moment, because in the last few weeks he has under performed, but he can't put away the chances he creates for others.
