2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

That's my point that stats lie.

His record would show he's actually been brilliant, but he hasn't it's a myth. He's slow, he's off the pace, he goes missing consistently each game. I'd swap his goals for someone who actually wants the ball, actively wants to make things happen and can take a set piece. If he's a centre forward, i'm delighted with his return, but he isn't and for £45m... he should be doing more.

He should be better, but maybe he's ALWAYS been this way?

What I’m about to say isn’t meant as a knock at our status as a club but quite simply if a player gets to the peak age of 27/28 and his big money move is to Everton.. then I’m afraid that player isn’t of the standard that we need to take us to a higher level. It’s why the new model and focus under Brands in regards to young, developing talent is so important. Players who will develop and improve hopefully in tandem with the clibnas a whole.

Not only is it more sustainable but it just makes more financial sense. Bolasie and Sigurdsson were big money buys with no room to really improve and no chance of any sell on value and now we’re lumbered with them. I know gylfi has done better than Bolasie, but they’re both indicators of what went totally wrong in regards to transfer strategy.

All this talk about stats being of questionable value is true, and just proves why Steve Walsh was so unsuccessful in his role.

Glyfi was signed on the strength of his stats by a DOF obsessed with stats.
Walsh first job should have been signing Vardy, but instead he signed the slowest players in the world, that was sorted this season but we have a manager who hasn't got a clue how to use the players. Sigs would do very well here if we had the right type of manager, but at the moment he does look very uninterested, but he knows he won't be dropped so it's ok for him.

The powers that be employed Walsh and that [Poor language removed] Shakespere we will be lumbered with their mistakes for 3 more years yet. Unsalable assets or just bad business.

I will say that the only thing I am happy with about Steve Walsh is that he *didn't* sign Vardy. You know it would have turned out terribly one way or another.

What a shambolic player.

That at the end of todays game when all he had to do was launch the ball into the box, yet he just carried the ball out wide away from goal doing a couple of step overs. Someone said it wasn't his fault because there was no one with him, maybe that was because everyone was in the box waiting for the ball to come in!

Play him deeper in a 433 or bench him and give Bernie a go as the ten.
If we wouldn't buy dwarfs midgets or weaklings like Bernard Sigurdsson Keane DCL Wallcot and bring in athlets and winners that would be a much better idea.
We dont have any athletic impact on a game. Look at the RS. Running fighting and playing football are the basics of the game. Everton is geting the ball upfield in slow tempo then loose the ball and wait until the opposition have there try on goal. No pressing no athletic players winning second balls no desire no tactics. A nutman in goal. A half baked guy like Keane in defense. Coleman finished a long time ago. Sigurdson playing football circa 1970. No CF.

I doubt my view is unique, and not arsed to read this entire thread, but I’m increasingly of the mind that whatever Iceman offers, it isn’t enough or doesn’t otherwise fit what Silva is trying to do. Seems like we’d be better off running a 433 than having this one doing whatever is his thing in the middle of the field.

You just can´t build your team around this fella. He´s not that player, never has been that player. You´ll get flashes from him but you need much more than that. Wouldn´t mind in the slightest if we retained him but he has to move further down the pecking order.
