2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Depending on what happens with Gueye and any replacement would dictate what happens next with Sigurdsson. If we can get someone in that allows him to play as a proper number 10 be it a striker to score goals or a better all round midfielder then we should move on with him in the team. If we don't we really need to drop him to the bench and try a different way of playing cos at the minute he is being hung out to dry. His goals have been useful but his ability to go missing is equally frustrating. Now we are literally playing for pride we should be looking at next season so maybe we can hit the ground running. Even 7th for Europa League is looking doubtful now as there will only be two of the sky 6 left in QF. Start looking at players now we know what Sigurdsson offers but sone of the others are still unknown quantities.

it's not his natural position, is it? He'd have to adjust. Is that what we want for next season? I think he's capable, but is he willing to buy in completely and make the necessary changes?

Im not sure if he can adapt, but he wont be going anywhere soon, its just a case of hoping he adapts, otherwise he will be phased out the squad in 18months time once hes replaced.

what would you make of him being in that formation/spot permanently?

This is my key question for next season, because if we don't think Siggy can adjust to fill that role we need him to, then I could see us selling Siggy as well.... as crazy as it sounds....

He has the engine, ability on the ball in tight spaces and passing range to be a good number 8, yes.

Over recent months, I think he has been too often positioned too far forward of the central midfield for how we play, so we are disjointed and get overrun (compounded by not having forwards we can go direct to, who can hold the ball up).

In the 433 against Huddersfield we saw the benefit of Sigurdsson's pressing game in the middle of the park with numerous tackles. He was also able to get more involved on the ball.

The key will be ensuring he can maintain a good goal output from that position.
