I think you will be disappointed by Gomes if you expect him to be a playmaker...

I expect him to be able to get the ball into the front men, which is what he can do.

I'm not expecting him to be a Thiago-type who sits at the anchor point in a midfield three and control a game that way, no.

Surely yesterday proved we can't do that, mate?

He's not got the skillset to control a game. He's good at quick interchanges in and around the area and getting on the end of things or creating in that final third.

He is not a playmaker in the natural sense. That needs to be done deeper. He doesn't have a 'range of passing' as such. He isn't going to ping a 40-yard defence-splitting pass or drive us forward.

He can pick a great quick pass short range, or use his quick feet to create a yard for a shot.

We need a player to get the ball into him and then if he's not cutting it, we have the numbers in that role to drop him.

Gomes will hopefully be that player, because none of our other midfielders are, that's for sure.
At last someone grasps the sort of player he is.

He can't play in midfield 2 or wide in 3.

The only role he can play is no.10 and I question if he has the creativity to play that role in the way in which say Beardsley played it.

His delivery from dead balls was supposed to be excellent but he hasn't produced anything of that quality in the time time with us.

So yes he can play no.10 but is he really good enough?

He isn't our biggest problem but definately not the answer either.

Ask yourself this how much would we get on the ( inflated ) market for him now? I suspect his value will have dropped considerably and we would do well to get £25 mill

I've said all along this is what type of player he is. I've had many arguments/discussions about it.

Your bit in bold - he actually has, he's put in plenty of great deliveries that we haven't taken advantage of. Could easily have had double the amount of assists last season.

Scored 2 and 1 assist in 6 games means he's on par to play a part in 19 goals this season.

That'd be a decent return with others chipping in. Some fans on here are saying he did nothing before the goal and nothing sheet, but what about the other ten + players who didn't contribute anything either? We win as a team and lose as a team, but our fans look for scapegoats and don't realise that about 8/9 players' threads are open after every defeat with criticisms of the mere negative.

P, he hasn’t put a decent corner in since Lyon at home last season

I mean, he has.

I can think of the Keane sitter against Chelsea right away.

Pretty sure he put in three really good deliveries against Southampton just a few weeks ago.

Hasn't done it enough but he has put in some really good deliveries that we've missed from.

His shooting from free-kicks has been gash, like.

I’d let’s digne take them. He has a ball on him.

Hopefully a fit Mina will give him a better return when it comes to corners. After Cenks tame header it is clear that we have strikers that would struggle to score in a brothel when Richarlison isn't on the pitch.
