2018/19 Gylfi Sigurdsson

He's one of those players who will have a half decent 25% of a game, and do nothing for the other 75%, and any criticism will be met with lads telling you that you know nothing about footy, and saying how he's been one of our best players, and we couldn't do without him, etc, etc.
I don't think you know nothing about footy mate, far from it.
I just disagree with you on this point / player.

1236 players have played in the top 5 leagues in Europe this year.

Gylfi averages 18 passes a game.

993 players average more.

Of the 243 players who average fewer passes none play as a number 10 and few are regular starters.
How many of those number 10s who do have CMs as good as ours to supply them?

Or would you like Gylfi dropping deeper and leaving our lone ST isolated?

Haha no he wouldn't!

Jesus christ the absolute muck some of you lot come out with lol 'out the team'? who the hell is going to replace him?? we'd be far worse off without him right now, but do continue chatting utter wham.

Mate, he's not a number ten, he's getting shoehorned into the team because of how much he cost.

You disagree, that's fine, but I'm not chatting wham. Silva has always played a 4-3-3 formation, yet plays a 4-2-3-1 here all to try and accommodate Sigurdsson because he can't play centre mid.

Gomes will replace him in time if he can get up to speed and he's a much better fit for how Silva wants to play football.

Sigurdsson is more of a Tim Cahill type player, but we all seem to think he's a playmaker and play him like one.

Yes, yes a thousand times yes. He needs to drop deeper to help progress the ball up front. Stop occupying the same space as our striker and helping defend.

Comparison I keep making.

We would not want Cahill play making, not his game.

He needs to be surrounded by passing midfielders. I said it when we signed him.

Cahill needed Arteta, Pienaar and Osman.

Problem seems to be we are asking GS to be a player he isn't.
