We hardly create a plethora of chances with Gylfi as a ten but he has to play there because he is one of two players who produce goals and assists and we spent so much money on him. It's not a good set up for the team overall though . If Delph gets fit try him and Gomes ahead of Gbamin. Iwobi could also be tried at ten especially away from home for pace on the break.
The thing I have noticed about Siggy since he's been here is that he is a very slow starter to the season. I'm not sure what he was like at Swansea, but here he takes a few games to get into his stride. Same appears to be the case with Bernie who has looked so off the pace in pre-season but I saw an improvement yesterday. Hopefully they'll both get up to speed in the next couple of games; the same with Richy who in fairness has only just returned after the Copa America.
I think the additions to the squad have brought a few more options to Silva, and I don't expect Siggy to be a guaranteed starter this season. He will still get game time almost every match, assuming he's fit, but I can see Silva mixing up his starting XI depending upon who and where we are playing. Ironically, last year we only had quality squad rotation in one position, centre back, which is probably where we have least cover now. But near enough all over the pitch we have a quality rotator and players who can cover more than one position. We have added pace and a bit of guile with Iwobi, strength with Gbamin, and goal threat from Kean.
I can see Siggy starting the majority of our home games plus those away games when we could expect to dominate. But there will be games when we play a counter attacking style and I think we have other players more suited to that. We may even line up that way against City at home at the end of next month. I can see Iwobi being at the head of a midfield 3, DCL up top to harass and occupy their 2 defenders, and Kean and Richy on the wings.
I still see Siggy as our main creative player in the majority of our games though. He can be very effective and he should really have had another half dozen assists last season to go with his 14 goals. Hopefully with Kean on the end of some of those incisive through balls, and the vision and passing ability of Delph, Gomes and Gbamin to find him in space in the hole, we should see an even better return from him this season than last.
