Transfer Rumour Gylfi Sigurdsson

Hello Everton fans. I'm from Iceland and have been reading this forum for the past week or so. I just wanted to post my thoughts on this move.

- Gylfi CAN play as midfielder in a 2 man midfield. He plays there with Iceland in 4-4-2 system. AMC may be his best positon but his position number 2 is definitely a MC. I dont see why he can't be a succecsful box to box midfielder. He covered more distance last season than Kante and if my memory is right he ran more than any other player in the league.

- Everton need a target man. Get Giroud and Gylfi will guaranteed be on ay least 10 assist.

- Dont play Gylfi on the wing ! He can play there but would be much more effective in number 8 or number 10.

- People who say Barkley is class above Gylfi haven't watched Gylfi play(I could be biased).

I agree with your first three bullet points. I actually think Sigurdsson is better deeper, because he's a much more dynamic midfielder than Barkley and positionally sound. He's certainly not a winger, and you're right that a technical player would love his "eye of the needle" passes to feet and a powerful striker will love his set piece delivery.

However, Barkley is head and shoulders above him in the attacking midfield role. Sorry mate, but stats and my own eyes bear that out. That said, given Gylfi is coming here and Ross is going, I hope I'm wrong!

Sig would have had just as many passes as Ross if he hadn't have played for a pretty awful Swansea side. It's likely he would have had even more assists though

But that's just like saying Ross would've had more assists if he didnt have to just rely on 1 striker.
