From the left. Where apparently he can't play.

Also - "A deeper look at the data revealed that only 25 of the 80 chances he created came from open play. For context, four Everton players eclipsed that number. Defensive midfielders Gareth Barry and Idrissa Gueye matched it."

Swansea had the 3rd highest amount of crosses in the league last season on to Lorrente's head. That's what he does.

As for distance covered...well, they were in a relegation scrap all season and he had to chase the ball.

Fundamentally we aren't built for his strengths. Therefore you go one of two ways - bench him and play and attacker or get a target man.

He's not a creator. He can't dictate a game. He can cross a mean ball. Again not his fault. We're just trying to make him do stuff he can't.

You'd think he'd play straight into Big Sam's apparent agricultural football.

He can also score, he's not just a crosser. He's had 3 goals already from open play this year. My guess is he'll have at least 3 more, especially with some better offensive options. And frankly, he leads our team in crosses by a mile, yet we have no one to get on the end of one. He also leads our team in key passes. So he's the #1 creative force in this team. So to rip him and not criticize everyone else is just silly.

But to say he's not a creator, when he leads the league in assists every year with limited touches on the ball in a bad team...I just don't know what a creator is. You seriously don't think it has anything to do with Everton and his team? I mean, Swans, Spurs, Iceland, etc. This guy HAS some history. Isn't Everton the anomaly?

And we aren't built for ANY creators strengths.

Likewise he's going to have less opportunity to create a chance then isn't he when he's spending all game chasing the ball.

To say he's not a creator is bonkers to me, his assists alone...

Agree with how using him isn't helping, hence;

Too many players are well below par.

Arteta in his pomp struggles in this Everton team.

He's a creator in terms of crossing and dead balls.

In terms on linking play and carrying an attack, someone to replace Ross Barkley, he's not that player.

Additionally he's been under 3 different managers and he's still not had one standout game to prove anyone wrong IMO. This includes playing in his preferred number 10 and games where he's not chasing a game.

The price (not his fault) and our aspirations at the start of the season or even going forward need an upgrade from him as a type of player IMO

Arteta in his pomp would still keep the ball as he was for more intelligent player than Sigurdsson. The same with Pienaar.

He takes all the corners and freekicks so chances created is massively skewed.

He's got 3 goals and 2 assists.
Rooney (played less minutes that Siggurdson) has 10 goals (6 open play) 2 assists.
DCL has 3 goals and 4 assists.

So even if Siggurdson's "chances created" wasn't all set pieces...surely DCL wouldn't have double the amount of assists he does?

Overall, I just think he's the wrong type of player for us. I'd honestly wouldn't be bothered if he didn't get high assists and goals just as long as he could dictate a game, link an attack, and it was the rest of the other players fault. But he doesn't.

Barkley got stick for his end product yet was our chief creator for 4 seasons.

Even when he has the movement his passing is very poor. Under or over hits all sorts of passes.

Look at Walcott on the weekend. Wanted the ball, tried to best a man, actively encouraged players near him to find a pass. Bagged an assist in his first game - 1 away from our chief "creator"

Sigurdsson spends more time trying to control the ball.

Of course not. Who the heck thought he was going to play like Arteta and Barkley? Ross was a ball holding midfield. Rooney is that now. He's not even playing that position.

Again, that's a preference, not a criticism. This team needs Siggy AND a midfielder that can win balls back, hold them, and transition up to the front. Ross also couldn't do that because he couldn't tackle anyone. But that has NOTHING TO DO with Sigurdsson.

So Sigurdsson should play more like a wing? It's OKAY as a play maker to not hold the ball and move it instead or shoot it.

It's amazing how every criticism against this guy is completely subjective and can be actually disproven at times.

He's slow and doesn't work hard...well, he covers more ground than anyone in the league, so he's at least ONE of those two things.
He doesn't score from open play...well, he actually scored more goals per match when he WASN'T taking free kicks.
He didn't do well at Spurs...well, he actually produced at a better rate from open play and didn't take free kicks or penalties.
He doesn't create enough...well, statistically he creates more goals/assists than almost anyone else in the league over the past many years.

It's all a bit silly. The guy has been outstanding everywhere he's been and has been pretty good here, we just aren't real good right now.

If you want to say we should've have spent the 45M on him, fine. We already had Rooney, I get it. But he's the only one creating anything. Most key passes of anyone on the team, most crosses, low dispossesion numbers, etc.

My eyes tell me he’s crap and slow mate. Regardless of stats.

AND a target man.

£45mill player who needs another £45mill around him to make him worthwhile.

Would he be missed if he was benched? Simple as that.

I don't think he would be.

He's a very, very good footballer but we're Evertoning him.

Put him central, put some runners around him (Bolasie only just coming to fitness, Walcott now...) and a target to aim for (Cenk?) and he'll flourish.

Keep him out on the left with Cuco behind him, or punt hopeless long balls forward and he'll struggle.

He's capable of moments from nothing like Hajduk Split and Southampton, and he'll pop up in the big games like at Anfield but for some reason a lot of our fans seem obsessive over his fee (like with fellaini and lukaku) and hell bent on knocking the lad
Isn't that what we put out this weekend and he looked invisible?

It's always somebody else's fault why he isn't performing.
