2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

The stat is "nonsense" because it's implying that there's a relationship between the two pieces of information it presents, our win-rate and gylfi and rooney playing together.

"Idiotic and frightening" get a grip

The stat is not nonsense. It's factual information.

As I've said to you already, you can interpret it in whatever way you want. But saying it's nonsense is weird. Saying you think there's no correlation behind us winning with them on the pitch is fine. But the information is correct.

Personally I always veer towards what the numbers are saying, but I know others don't.

What I liked was we finally got a run of form and were nearly safe so big Sam decided to change it so he can maintain his 'survivor' reputation

It is almost as if he has to try and justify his job, that he's had to do this major rebuild so come the summer he can say to moshiri it was tough but look i fixed the team and will blag another 18 month extension, if we carried on playing well and we where safe already then it would show any half competent manager could do the job

It is a bit cherry-picked. You need to control for a load of other factors before drawing that conclusion. Not least the quality of opposition!

But I don’t agree with the idea that they can’t play together. It depends on how you set up.

What was the central defence pairing during the same time periods?

The thing is though Chris you can't say a player who contributed just on 50% of his sides goals, and who runs more than any other player in the league - hides.

A player who *hides* doesn't make himself available that much, or contribute that much - you keep banging on about his fee, almost obsessive like. It seems any player who comes to Everton for a big fee has his card marked by a section of fans who'll never let it go.

It seems everyone is either amazing or abysmal - there's no middle ground with a lot of football fans.

I personally think he's done alright - he's been put out of position (or as Sam said on Saturday: "For me, Gylfi has been trudging away outside on the left side, so play him in the position he wants to play and see what he can do"), he's been in a side without a decent striker, with no balance and well short of confidence. There's too many players struggling to start pinning the blame on individuals.

All that said, he is a senior player at 28 so you do expect him to stand up and be counted more. He's tried - I can think of 4 moments off the top of my head he certainly didn't hide - some are forgotten because of what followed but 1. hajduk split, we were going out I think until he slotted from the half way line. 2. Southampton, we were being snotted, couldnt get out of our half and then he scores a belter on his tod, 3. Anfield goal, absolutely bust a gut to get there - certainly not hiding! as well as 4. Swansea when he scored another cracker in a big moment.

The key moments there forgot about because of what followed.

Why are so many of our fans so desperate to stick the knife in to their own players? Don't get it me - it's bonkers.

Well he played the majority of his time at Swansea in the left. And like I’ve said all along he doesn’t influence the game from open play, that’s my gripe with all the stats that are thrown about his favour.

Apart from a half against Swansea at home he’s been anonymous, and any top pro will be played on the left, centre or right and try and influence a game.

Look at Barkley last year, constantly going looking for the ball, turning and looking to make things tick over. Rooney the same this year, we took the mick because he was at left back once but that’s because he was going to try and make things happen and demanding the ball. But people will blame the system, the team mates, the managers.

And what you’ve described is basically Charlie Adam, the MOTD god because of his worldies or Hollywood passes. If Siggurdson had that much passion he would dictate games, he’d be the man demanding the ball and controlling the pace of the game, it’s what the top pros do.

The issue is that what I described all the way back in January this year, when people where calling for him then, has come true. I’ve watched him over the years and I’ve been impressed on the odd occasion.

I don’t see it has sticking the knife in, it’s having an opinion on a player. At the games (the ones I manage to get to nowadays) they get my support for 90 minuets, I leave my bitching till the train home.

Think that stat says more about Rooney's inconsistency than anything else. Difficult to know when he's going to look either world class or past it.

Mate you can present numbers to tell many different stories, you sound very naive.

He isnt a playmaker his creativity comes from set plays not his vision, passing or his movement. He rarely creates chances from open play.
Like at Spurs? Like when he first got to Swans? He averaged MORE goals per minute when he wasn’t taking spot kicks.

It’s not like this guy just had a couple goals and assists, too. He had 9 goals and 13 assists for Swans last year.
