2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Nah I don't want Vlasic in my team considering he has done nothing.

Vlasic hasn't done anything? Are you having a laugh mate.

He is winger that has linked up the best with Gylfi when Players Lennon/Mirallas/Lookman didn't.

Much better than anything that Bolasie has done this season. He has shown that he can play LW/RW/ST/CM/AM for us.

Scored what should've been the winner against Limassol (which we fluffed in the 88th minute after they received a red card) and proceeded to score & assist against Limassol in the 2nd leg.

Yes he was bad against West Brom, but we had Schneiderlin/McCarthy in midfield & Tosun/Sigurdsson both playing poorly.

Against United Gylfi didn't play, and he was really good for the first 60 minutes. He was poor after getting tired from lack of minutes this season.

Third of all, Vlasic is extremely good defensively. He was poor in the last 30 minutes against United, but that's because of how tired he was. Big Sam was a fool for not taking him off.

Nor do I want Mangala at left back. He looked atrocious today while he was on. I want Davies in all my teams.

Mangala was 50/50 today, made a few errors but provided some good crosses/passes while Keane's were atrocious.

IMO both him & Funes Mori are capable of playing LB, but I chose Mangala at LB specifically because in 12/13 he played 20 out of 40 matches in all competitions there.

Funes Mori is the better CB, but if Mangala is out injured for awhile I'd like to see RFM at LB until Baines or Mangala returns. With Williams, Holgate or Jagielka next to Keane.

The idea that Rooney and Gylfi should play centrally is just insane. Gana and Davies. Just leave it be.

Have we seen Rooney & Gylfi play centrally alongside Gueye? Does Rooney offer more than Sigurdsson centrally?

Davies & Gueye are very similar players, Rooney & Davies are polar opposite. IMO only 1 of Davies/Rooney should be playing.

The idea that Vlasic should play ahead of Davies or even Bolasie is just silly.

I've liked Bolasie as a player for many years, but his injury has had a massive hit on his pace. He went from being extremely fast to a slow player.

He isn't clinical or very technical either. He has poor decision making, low football IQ & is bad at defending.

Vlasic in comparison, is very clinical & technical, has great decision making, high football IQ, and is excellent at defending.

I'd like to see Cenk start there, but I'm sick of Niasse being upfront so I chose that instead.

Totally agree, got no problem with him at all

You've been slagging him off for months. You only have to go a few pages back to see how much you loathe him.

Some of you clearly have a problem with him.

Either you blindly thought he was worse than Barkley, only a set piece merchant/etc, or you were against the transfer since you first heard it during the summer, resulting in your fickle bitter attitude regarding him.

Gylfi already has 12 goals/assists in all competitions this season, he finished off with 23 last season.

He could very easily create another 11 goals in the remaining 11 PL matches of the season. Especially if it is 2 like he did today.

No I'm not having a laugh. Vlasic still hasn't scored against anyone other Cypriot farmers. I like him. He is a good prospect. But he absolutely does not deserve to start. Nor is he even a winger.

He has put up plenty of great crosses, provided well needed width, he is much more clinical than Bolasie, defends better too.

There is literally no reason not to give him a chance, especially in favour for Davies, Rooney, DCL or Bolasie.

How exactly is he not a winger? I've followed him for years, and even made this highlights video of him.

Capable of playing upfront or in midfield = Not a winger? :hayee:

He's not a winger you say? As you do. :bye:

He looks like he wants to tuck inside. Maybe winger if you mean in the pienaar mould. But he certainly has a lot of improving to do. The front 6 who started today are clearly our best combination at this given moment.

I don't need your videos of him. I'm perfectly content in my own analysis. He is not ready to start regularly.

He's not a winger.

And his defensive atrociousness is what got him dropped after costing us loads of goals

He tucks inside on the left to shoot on goal because he is more dangerous & unpredictable on the left.

On the right he doesn't tend to shoot as frequently, but does become a little more predictable.

Bolasie played RW against Liverpool and was EXTREMELY predictable in his best match for us since returning from injury.

I like Davies, his stock has massively risen in my eyes.. But if he plays like he normally does then I'll always want him on the bench.

Like seriously, when do you see Davies dribble & pass as good as he did today? He was ridiculously good.

That video shows his best highlights in his last 3 seasons for Hadjuk Split.

He primarily plays as a winger, with the occasional game centrally or upfront. He shows incredible defending, great finishing ability, very good linkup play & passes, and IMO has been our 2nd best winger this season behind Walcott.

You're entitled to your opinion, but at least have something to base it on. Not just anecdotal evidence.

Nikola Vlasic is not a winger? Where the hell did this narrative come from?

24 of his 29 matches for us this season are on the wing. Playing one or two matches doesn't change anything.

When did he ''cost us loads of goals''? He had a poor 2nd half against United after playing his first match in 2 months. He was one of our best defenders in the 1st half, and generally defends extremely well.

I remember one moment when he tracked back at RW & stole possession from Pogba in impressive fashion.

That and several other moments proves he's our 2nd best defender out of our wingers.

How are Bolasie & Vlasic better defenders? They're not. I think Vlasic is better than Sigurdsson defensively, and that says a lot.

He's just not an out and out winger from what I've seen. I'm not against playing him there but yeah.

And he actually was at fault for a few goals with his lack of defensive work which directly led to conceding etc, which is why he got dropped.

I genuinely thought he was very poor in that UTD game, granted we weren't exactly setting the league on fire right then.

Moot point tbh, we're playing Gylfi on the wing & he isn't even close to being one.

Vlasic is miles better offensively & defensively on the flank compared to Sigurdsson.

What games are you even referring to? He played 45 min against West Brom, Jay's goal had nothing to do with him.

Sure he was poor against United, but what do you people seriously not understand? IT WAS HIS FIRST MATCH IN OVER TWO MONTHS.

Obviously you're not fully match fit, and Big Sam was incredibly dumb for not taking him off.

Blame him for both of the goals when he barely had anything to do with them?

So besides one game, when has Vlasic ''failed us defensively''? His 2 PL matches prior were cleansheets against Newcastle & West Ham.

His last 'big loss' was against Southampton, where he only played 15min & came on when we were already losing 3-1.

Vlasic's worst game defensively was against Arsenal, and he was deployed centrally. Judge him as a winger & when he actually gets to play, don't just make up crap.

He was brilliant in the first 60 minutes against United & slowly faded once gassed out.

Jesus, Davies and Gana are different players. Davies is the only thing we have that resembles a box to box player that can link D to our offense and you want to sit him for Vlasic? Who out of Rooney or Gylfi would play that role? We’ve played well like twice in months and it’s not a coincidence Gana and Davies were in the midfield.

And no, Vlasic is not a winger. Neither is Sigurdsson. Doesn’t mean they can’t play on the left, but they aren’t wingers like Bolasie. If you are fixated on playing a winger, you’d play Bolasie.

Honestly, if you think Vlasic is miles better than Sigurdsson offensively and defensively, beyond being literally the only one on the entire earth that thinks that, you’d just have him play for Siggy, you wouldn’t sit Davies.

I think brilliant is blown out of proportion, our only decent outlet that day was Bolasie. He was a nuisance and made us look semi decent in the first half against UTD.

I can't recall specific games because I barely care to be honest, but if you were to trawl back through this thread enough you'd find examples. It was a hot topic for a while concerning vlasic, even sure a manager or Vlasic himself called him/himself out for it.

Vlasic can improve and should be an asset next season hopefully.

Siggy has actually played as a winger a lot in his career so if Vlasic is a winger, then Siggy is too. Also, you're mad if you think Vlasic is better than Siggy defensively when one of Siggys main perks is that he is actually decent defensively and puts in a proper shift.

Mate martina is played 90% of the time at LB ... that mean he is one?

I can't figure out why anyone has a problem with him. He works his tail off. He set up 2 of our 3 goals today and had a key role in the third. He's been played all over the place, he's been stuck covering for Martina, he has zero targets on free kicks, he plays D, what's the issue?

It's all about the transfer fee. If he'd cost 25m like Klaassen people wouls be talking him up.

I think he's quality and reallt want him to succeed. You could see earlier in the season he was desperate to do well and frustrated when things didn't come off.

Good to see his confidence improving and him having a go at some more long-rangers, one of the things he's best at.
