2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

I think he's done pretty well. Not outstanding and hasn't justified £45m.

Regardless though, stats can't be used as the overriding factor imo - both for those pro-Sig' and those anti. They can be used to supplement of course, even be the basis.

Steven Pienaar statistically was never any great shakes. But, using our eyes, we all appreciated his talent.

Same with Baines. Statistically he is on the decline. But Saturday shows the balance he brings.

Nice one for cherry picking that.

Obviously buying him wasn't a 'mistake' by any definition, but carry on thinking he's crap just by virtue of the fact that he'll never live up to a 'price tag' in your eyes..

Calm down Aron, mate.

I think it was a mistake buying him from the club in the sense that 3 successive managers have decided not to build a team around him which is the only time he's been proven in his career to be a game changer.

Not sure how anyone can argue with the above TBH

That's not even true, he hasn't even been close. He's been average to good at best. Coleman in the 4 matches has been better, Pickford has been better for the entire season, Walcott has been clearly had more impact since he's come here than Sigurdsson has had since he has.
I like Seamus as much as anybody and he has done remarkably well since his comeback, but it will be next season before he gets even close to his best.

I call it like I see it.

He understandably suffered from a slow start but he's been showing us his quality for months now, yet people will always been set in their initial opinions of him. Find it bizarre myself.

Overrated? I mean the stats are there.

Ross literally creates twice as much as Gylfi, and has done consistently.

Passes the ball twice as much, with greater accuracy, at greater length.

4 times as many successful dribbles.

The only area where Gylfi scores higher are tackles and interceptions, which I don't see as the main job of a #10.
I am going by my own judgement rather than stats. Sigurdsson for me is far more creative than Ross will ever be, is much better at corners, free kicks and deliveries into the box and he was surprised me by how hard he works.

I am sure you are aware of the saying... there are lies, damn lies and statistics.

I think the obvious surprise at Chelsea at how poor they felt Barkley was is telling. However, he was at a new club, not long back from injury so there certainly were circumstances explaining his poor form , but I think they were surprised at his lack of awareness of what was going on around him and for them that is a worry.
At Everton everything revolved around him and maybe he didn't need to be as aware but remember Koeman did have problems with him as well.

The comparisons with Barkley are completely daft. I bet at this point Ross can only wish that he'll end up making anything out of his career now, let alone even get close to Sigurdsson's level. He's already on a slippery slope at Chelsea ffs.

Its like Barkley does not even exist,as we have hardly heard of him for months,or feels that way to me

You can't pigeonhole players, especially in the midfield.

To compare Ross and Siggy is mad. They may both play in a forward position but they are differently built and with different instincts.

what has even happened to barkley? seem him make a few sub apps then nothing for a few weeks

he's not got a chance off going the world cup given the minutes he's played at Chelsea

realistically if he stayed he'd be playing most weeks and would have a chance of going, absolute made up he's gone of the radar, rat

He was out for 4 months with a hamstring injury. Played about 100 minutes and reinjured the same hamstring.

Rat or not he was vastly better than Sig.
