2017/18 Gylfi Sigurdsson

Think pinear! He was a good player despite lack of pace, strength, power, height etc

Barkley can kick a ball wherever he wants to given time. Give him no time, and he doesn't know what to do
Got an email off Everton today selling kits and stuff.
Swear the model is Pienaar.

Mate common , if you put the ball on a plate for a striker then that's job done isn't it? Always someone else's fault? I hope your not a barkley supporter because I have heard everything from gangsters, the fans, he's playing with crap, injury, manager to negative, manager to positive, lukaku doesn't move enough, he has nobody to pass to etc as reasons why he was crap, never barkley a attitude or application

When did Siggurdson put it on a plate for anyone? Can't remember a through ball or anything for a striker to get on the end of apart from the odd corner.

And the end of the day Barkley was our main creative player for 4 seasons regardless of hit and miss performances. The argument by people who didn't like him was to upgrade from Barkley. We haven't.

This thread proves why we’ll never be as good as that lot over the Park. We slate every single one of our players and rejoice when they go through poor spells so we can tell our mates at the pub that we were right. That lot actually believe in their players a bit.

We couldn’t even get behind the first 25 goal a season striker we’ve had in decades ffs. Gylfi doesn’t stand a chance.

Man U do not have one 'great' player in the team these days so cant agree with you

De Gea + for pure finishing Lukaku + Pogba (if used correctly perhaps)? Bailly + Sanchez + Mata + Herrera + Matic

Could all be classed as great or top players if played consistently in a side whose tactics suit them...like Iceland do for Sigurdsson.

Yet the stats indicate none of your assertions are true. Because they aren't.

He had a serious injury, that's all that happened. Before it, his output was fantastic and he comfortably eclipsed Sigurdsson.

Sure, he's probably finished now due to a poor career move and a serious injury, but the point being made is that he was provably a better player than Sigurdsson over the last few years.

I want Sigurdsson to do well here, but if he does it means we build a side around him and, in my view, there's a cap on what you can achieve by doing that. Plus he's the wrong age now to build a side around.

@Groucho can call me an idiot all he wants, but if Gylfi has a good World Cup and some team comes in with a £30m approx bid for him, we should be biting their hands off.

Thats the key for me, he'll be 29 in September so at most has 3 seasons at the top level.

Is he someone for the long term or even someome who you would want to build a side around? For me no.

He's a good player, and i like him...always have, BUT hes not getting better overnight amd wont catapult us into the top 4.

I don’t understand the need to talk about Barkley. He’s not here anymore and hasn’t gone on to bigger and better things. Move on.

Comparisons between past and present players...

Just search timaks posts, he's schooled you fanboys multiple times

@Timak has been gradually emerging as a top poster on here...

That explains sooo much about the last 4 seasons.

You say he wont get us into the top 4 and that he has 3 years left, yet you want us to sign a load of yoots that wont be anything other than potential for the next 3 years.

We cant field a team of kids, we need experienced talented players, not overpampered teenagers who think they have made it.

Iceland for me is without question our best player, im not quite sure why this is up for debate.

We should replace 36 players in the squad before him.

It's the same with our managers too.

Being right about Martinez all along was nice for a few.

Find it laughable that people slate our better players when we’ve got so much deadwood and plenty more with bad attitudes. Gylfi didn’t choose his transfer fee, nor did he choose to turn up as soon as we became absolutely tragic due to Walsh and Koeman’s incompetence. He’s one of the few players with actual quality who can win us games. But yeah let’s slate him anyway.

Think with better players around him and an actual system and style of play we may well see the quality he has.

Do you believe that Sigurdsson could deliver in almost every game to such a high standard which catapults the team into the top 4?

Its clear hes not at the very top level of 'special' players. Good yes but not 'great'...

Any offer close to what we paid should be accepted.

Im saying that as someone who rates him lol

Its nothing to do with the other players in the squad.

A conversation with my soon to be 8 year old son.

"Dad, are you supporting Argentina because of Messi?"
"What about Siggurdson who plays for Everton? He's the pride of Iceland."
"To be honest if he's the pride I don't want to see the worst ones."
Smirking I asked if he felt he was being a tad harsh.
"He's not the best. He's alright but you wouldn't have him in the team if you could get rid."

The dog also thinks Ashley Williams is "rough"

So what is it about?

I mean all im seeing is a desire to sell our best player, cos you think he wont get us top 4?

How does selling our best player help us get top 4?

Also, Liverpool have just got top 4, with only 2 special players, the other 9 are utter rubbish, you dont need 11 special players to get top 4, you only need 1 or 2.
