From my understanding, the ref on the pitch believed it was a corner but due to archaic laws that they abide by , if the linesman makes a call it can't be challenged. Which doesn't make sense as the match ref's stance should overrule someone's perspective on the sideline or at least be subject to VAR. Once again no consistency at all I thought it was an absurd call but just like the gomes foul against tottenham, sometimes it gets called other times it doesn't.

Why were City players allowed to surround the ref screaming at him to give the pen? I couldn’t tell on the tv coverage who he looked at before giving it?

If it were the other way around, there’d have been cards galore.

Especially grating when he booked Pickford for coming off his line

That daft offside now where they wait till the player touches the ball caused Stones injury last night but it could have quit easily been Beto with a broken leg

This type of thing is a long time in the making. Its so stupid and bad for players.. Stones ankle could have been a lot worst when you see the replay

Problem is the rules are written by people who don’t play the game. I’m sick of handballs been given for a defender jumping in the air to clear a header, how are you meant to jump?. Last night how can Onana slide to block a shot without his arms raised, otherwise you run the risk of injury. Even some of the best defenders this league as seen, have come out and said they hate seeing defenders defend 1-2-1 with the hands behind their back.
We have rules written by idiots being enforced by even bigger idiots.

i think because it hit his arm / hand is the main reason.

you misunderstand my point, on your logic, everytime it hits a hand it must be handball, unless there is intent, If he couldn't do anything about it, there cant be intent. That clearly isnt the case. Oh, it hit his shoulder.

I can't get my head around how that's handball. He's throwing his body in front of the ball, which was hit all of a foot or 2 away from him.

So what rule has he broken? It certainly wasn't intentional. His arm was not in an 'unnatural position' or making his body bigger to gain an unfair advantage... his body was in the shape that any other footballer's body would be in if they were performing the same block.

The kicker for me: if that was a Man City centre half and the ref gave the corner, can you honestly see VAR looking at it and telling him to go and look at the monitor? I certainly can't.

Clear and obvious my arse.

Agreed and if Beto goes one on one with the keeper and they smash into each other, i understand if the off side player stands still and someone from behind comes though but if the player in an off side position goes for the ball then it should be flagged straight away, then again VAR would then probably flag offside against the first player how can people make one of the most simplest of sports so confusing these days.

What stings is that gets given, an at most 50/50 decision, with the quickest VAR check of all time. And that Rodri one wasn't.

My only real Issue with it was that it was so close to him, so there wasn’t much time for him to move/react. I don’t like the rules as they are but his arm Is clearly up and away from his body and the ball obviously hits it.

I don’t get why this is the massively outrageous call that some seem to think it is? I’d be screaming for it down the other end.
