It’s a day we celebrate St Patrick bringing Christianity to Ireland.I don't know the actual Irish tradition in Ireland, but over here in the USA here I consider it to be one of America's worst pseudo-holidays, on par with Cinco de Mayo.

To leave that aside, had a pint with a couple of Portuguese lads wearing ‘Irish for a day’ t- shirts in my local. Delighted the fuss made of them, the craic from them and the bonds made.

One of the best qualities of "Irishness" celebrated on St. Patrick's Day worldwide is inclusiveness. That's why so many non-Irish can enjoy it, I think. As a cynical Irishman, I enjoy it on that level. Even if one has practical reservations about Irish unification, there is no doubt that we are better getting along with each other - whether we represent the green or orange segments on the flag. The rugby team shows that. Mind you, I fancy an England win tomorrow. A touch of complacency has crept in, I feel...
