2024/25 Harrison Armstrong

I took it as most of it was say Dyche's team. But Baines changed a player or 2 the way he spoke in the pre match Interview. We just would not know who.

….given Dyche brought him on at half-time on Saturday and said it was a much improved performance in the 2nd half, I’d be quite certain Armstrong was a starter for him last night. Virtually every comms about the match from the club featured the youngster.

I think we have far too many options in the position he will be competing for. Post Summer he won't. There's an argument to keep him here so when those lot do leave he's bedded in with the first team and it's an easier transition but watching him last night, he looked like someone to me that needs to have more gametime in a senior environment.
Opinions. I disagree, no biggy. Out of interest watch his goals from Forest game where we won 7-0. I get there are levels between that and Prem but he was head and shoulders above every player on that pitch.

We should be investing in players of a similar age so we have a 'wave' of young talent coming into the squad.

I keep repeating myself but the likes of Chris Rigg (Sunderland) and Tyler Dibling (Southampton) are around his age. Not necessarily them but if we could target these types and also see pathways for Braiden Graham, Roman Dixon and the likes then we could actually build something.
agree but this needs an entire overhaul of the club

He really shouldn't. He had a good performance in a poor game against a poor League 1 side. It wasn't however a performance to me that looked like he was anywhere near ready to step up and do it weekly in the PL. That's fine. Not every young player is capable of that. What he did show though is that he's ready for senior football at some level.

I'm not looking at this as a single performance.

I'm looking at:

A: Certain players out of contract in summer

B: Comparable quality in the team

C: Player development

D: Skillset required in current situation

agree but this needs an entire overhaul of the club

It should be underway with so much opportunity.

….sorry, I really don’t know what you mean, Joey

Not sure what your mobile is telling you but for those of us that live in this time zone, Dyche was fired yesterday and is the Manager who has given Young Armstrong his opportunity ;)
Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit - you stated we had no youngsters to fetch through that lad was our best midfielder last night he could run & pass through balls .....

A loan move would make sense because

A. He would likely get more experience and playing time

B. We have nothing to play for so even if he turns out to be decent and ready, it won't really help our campaign.

I'm fine with giving him minutes here and there and seeing if he can cut it. I can see the argument for a loan because he is more likely to see minutes if he is as promising as advertised. I would prefer the surer bet and I think several of our players suffered because they didn't get the chance to build confidence in the lower divisions. It falls to the incoming manager and whether they have a plan for him or not. I'm not a fan of promising lads riding pine.

…imagine being 17, living at home in the area you’ve been raised in, just breaking into the first team at a PL club your familiar with and being sent to a team where you’ll almost certainly struggle for game time and a manager who’s aim is not looking after your development.

More likely to ruin the lad.
Ruined him with splinters on the bench & playing Doucs morelike ....

We still never got a shot on target - while Doucs is puffing & panting on the pitch - what does he do ? Highest paid player - ship him out & play some youth - Colin Harvey would have never got in our team aged young as he was under Dyche ......

Our midfield is so slow - he was the highlight along with Patterson last night = pace & using the ball correctly, never seen it much this season other than = HOOF

Haven't seen a pass like that since James. I like the 3-5-2 also. Gets the full backs further and more movement in attack, perfect for a youngster to do well.

I liked his movement and intelligence with the ball. Those things look good on the highlights.

However, he lacked speed and strength to hold onto possession.

I thought as the match progressed he realised this and asked questions of his teammates to attack the space by threading through balls into dangerous areas quickly after recieving possession. The kid has a footballing brain.

The strength and ability to use it will develop over time with open age football. I think a loan is right for him, but only to a team that will aid his development via their playing style.

…..I recommend you start watching the youth teams, Joey.

Colin Harvey would definitely have played for Dyche so would Royle, Husband and Hurst. What I’m not sure is whether Armstrong would’ve played at 17 for Catterick. I say that because there was a reservoir of home grown talent back then.

As I’ve said a million times to you, times have changed since we were youngsters.

Mostly that playing standards are much higher these days.
