Has Phil Jagielka peaked?

Mention the name Phil Jagielka to any Evertonian and most will say he's the best CB at the club. After watching last season coupled with this world cup I cant help but admit that hes not up to it at elite level. I'm talking international and champions league material. When playing at that level you get exposed, now I'm not saying he's shi@e, but if we're to progress as a club we need a better CB. Bruno martins-indi would be ideal paired with Stonesy for the future.

Chris Waddle slammed England for not learning. Its not about all your flair and attacking players, youve got to build from the back then up to midfield before you think about attack. All successful sides have a good foundation.

In relation to the the thread title, has he peaked? Yes I think he has a couple of seasons ago.

I'm not convinced that international level is a particularly higher standard than the premiership to be honest. Neither the Italy or the Uruguay side would finish in the top 4 imo.

Firstly he's still an excellent defender so will be valuable for his skills.

Secondly he's a good captain for us and a fine example to Stones.

Finally we wouldn't get big money for him and probably not even enough to replace him.

so all in all it's a no for me.
not saying sell him at all

Peaked or not, these two points work for me. Coming off an injury is always tough, I don't think there will be any worry by the time the season starts up again

No I don't think hes peaked. Hes an excellent centre back and reads the game really well and I don't agree with you that hes not a top 4 centre back as any of them would like him in their ranks. Its mad to suggest he be replaced when Distin is the one nearing retirement and Stones is a brilliant prospect. But not with another new player as you suggest. Everton will still feel the benefit of Jags for a few years to come.

Never known a player at the top level to look so uncomfortable on the ball. He was a great defender however age and injuries have caught up with him.

He is getting unfair stick. Italy game he was the best defender, but garry cahill at sky club chelsea got no criticism at all for that game. His marking for balotellis goal was worse than jags for suarez goal.....but Baines got the blame!!!

Any team with Gerrard playing as a holding midfielder is going to lose cheap goals as he has no discipline, look at that lot last season, they shipped hatfuls an Suarez got them out of jail time and time again. The England defence looked shaky cos the lad can't play the role. Not that I care I'm made up there, sooner we get back to club football the better

This is a bit of a weird thread really. I don't know 1 single Everton fan, who had any concerns about Jags' form last season. England get knocked out the World Cup, and now we're questioning whether he's good enough for us? Weird, anybody would think the op never watched us last season (no offence intended.)

...posted on the World Cup thread that FIFA have a performance index based on World Cup games and Jagielka is currently 5th in the whole world rankings. Yes 5th best player so far according to FIFA. Lets not forget, he was excellent in the first game, I think everybody is going overboard about Uruguay game. My view is that we had a back 4 totally exposed by an ineffective central midfield shield.

He's still a top CB that I'm sure any club would want in their team. He's good for at least three last ditch tackles every game. He hardly ever gets a yellow. That being said, we have to start looking at someone to pair with Stones for the long run. That's why I think Caulker and the Dutch duo rumors are so prevalent.
