Has Phil Jagielka peaked?

A back four is only great if they get help from the midfielders. Left alone with no backing any 4 defenders, no matter how good, would have problems in a tournament at this high a lvl, same goes for highprofile Leagues like those in Spain, England, France, Germany, Italy...

Jags is a great defender, no question about it. Has he peaked? Not sure, some players peak earlier than others. Would actually have been interesting to see how Jags/Stones would fare since they are more used to play with eachother than Jags/Cahill.

Mention the name Phil Jagielka to any Evertonian and most will say he's the best CB at the club. After watching last season coupled with this world cup I cant help but admit that hes not up to it at elite level. I'm talking international and champions league material. When playing at that level you get exposed, now I'm not saying he's shi@e, but if we're to progress as a club we need a better CB. Bruno martins-indi would be ideal paired with Stonesy for the future.

Chris Waddle slammed England for not learning. Its not about all your flair and attacking players, youve got to build from the back then up to midfield before you think about attack. All successful sides have a good foundation.

In relation to the the thread title, has he peaked? Yes I think he has a couple of seasons ago.

Oh bore off believing the media blaming Everton players. Everton got 72 points with Jagielka at the back.

Somebodys defo peaked.

he's england's best centre back atm. i agree that he's not a top level player and he would struggle at the top end of champions league, but that's not what we expected when buying him for £4m. he's still our best CB and is not really use to this comfortable on the ball stuff he's been asked to do this season, so that may be the reasoning for him looking less solid than usual, season gone by (as well as injuries of course)

he's been a success without doubt, possibly a tad past his peak though, maybe when he adapts to this new style and becomes a better player though. howard's become a better player when i thought he was finished.

I was going to type a load of stuff, then read the above, which summed it up perfectly.

Not the greatest centre half in the world, but one of the best in the Premiership. Not likely to get much better, but will learn from Martinez and his staff. Just coming back from injury too, oh, and lets not forget, ALL players make msiatkse now and then.

the amount of top top quality defenders in the world atm is at a premium anyway.

as shown by this world cup really, none of the top teams have looked defensively sound, there aren't any great centre backs currently in the prem imo. vidic is passed it, ivanovic is higher rated because of his goal scoring, who else? kompany's a good player and a great leader, but wouldn't say he's a world class centre back.

john stones will be within time (y)

In other Twitter stupidity news from today that is loosely Everton related, the Exeter captain Danny Coles has apologised after abusing a fan. Coles had tweeted during the England game that 'Jagielka is like a car crash waiting to happen'. A fan replied 'A bit like you for Exeter', at which point Coles told him to 'f off' and called him the c word. That's not very nice!

If you google @will_wenley you can see the abusive tweet.

Serves him right for slagging off Jagielka.

Hahaha, friggin' hell. Did he forget he plays for EXETER?

Golly gosh, this shows how easily people are affected by the 'experts'. They played the game at a high level but there's a reason most of the best managers and coaches are rarely the best players.

He's still a top class defender.

Are you onboard like?

This was the bus from the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test right? I read that book a few weeks ago. It was far out. Apparently though, when you watch the film they made, it turns out they were just a bunch of divs rather than psychonautic pioneers taking conciousness to a new level (basically Kopites)
