Has Phil Jagielka peaked?

Nothing wrong with jagielka, hes a top defender and one of the best in the league. Not sure who I would have in front of him to be honest.

Having said that, hes probably got 3 seasons left in him at a guess and for a club like everton it would be time to sell if an offer approaching 10mil came in. Personally though I think he will stay with us till he retires and help bring through the kids.

Actually a shame baines and jags are at their ages as of both were in their early 20s then theu would be looking at 100caps for england each.

Alot of people havnt read the origional thread properly...

They have. And they're generally disagreeing with you.

Jagielka has been fantastic for us and there's nothing whatsoever to suggest he isn't good enough to be part of any future success at Everton, and suggesting Martins Indi who has done nothing outside the league that Alfonso Alves was a superstar in is the answer is madness.

He's a senior player in a squad that has had a phenomenal season and this thread is reactionary to him playing on the wrong side of defence for a national team that lacked teamwork and consistency - with the axis of crap that was Gerrard and Henderson in front of him.

Jags and Baines looked poor because the team was poor.

Who do the media pick on, not the media darlings of course. Lets pick on everton players and blame them..

Next season jags and Baines will be back to thier best in the leagues best defence..

All of these posts have strong, relevant points. The only thing I'll add in response to the OP is this: Distin is better than Jags. Not by much, but by enough to notice. I think Jags has peaked and will start to decline noticeably in the next 18 to 24 months.

Put down the crack pipe.

This was the bus from the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test right? I read that book a few weeks ago. It was far out. Apparently though, when you watch the film they made, it turns out they were just a bunch of divs rather than psychonautic pioneers taking conciousness to a new level (basically Kopites)

Yes mate - I watched some footage a few month's ago, and have to agree with you - there were a lot of stoner-hangers-on, although I wouldn't have expected too much productivity from them considering they had a 1litre flask of pure liquid LSD stolen from the experimental lab's of Harvard iirc.

Anyway, this is the best way to empathise with the British media and England manager's handling of Jag's and Baines folks...

What makes me laugh about Baines in particular is that the media bigged him up all last season, first linking him constantly with Man Utd for years (well before Moyes went there) and then last season there were tons of 'Baines has now passed Cole as the best left back in the country' articles. Cole himself played just 17 games, wasn't even first choice at Chelsea, and has now been released by them. "But England should 'ave took Cole, innit!" It's just nonsense. Baines looked poor because he played in a system that made him look poor.

If Baines and Jagielka are so bad, why did Everton have the 3rd best defence in the Premier League last season? No fingers are pointed at Glen Johnson, woeful at Liverpool, part of the 11th best Premier League defence. No fingers pointed at Stevie 'Don't let this slip!' Gerrard or Wayne 'Poor season at Europe-less Man Utd' Rooney. It's just blatant bias and easy scapegoating.

think he looks a bit out off his depth in the England team to be honest
but not had a problem with us maybe a few games but thats normal
seen more good/very games off him, a team setting up under Martinez is
al ot different to Hodgsons england LOL players above him didnt do much too help out either

+ the injury ive had no problems with him like

The lack of a decent defensive midfielder cost England, if you can take Gerrard and Lampard surely you take Barry as well. Jagielks and Baines played in a system where the 2 holding midfielders actually helped the defense whereas for England they were completly exposed. Jagielka and Stones in my opinion should be both England and Everton first choice as there attributes compliment each other. Cahill and Jagielka are very similiar that Iis why I would fast track Stones in a England shirt.

Whether good enough or not him and Cahill are by a mile England's top centre backs (until Stones blows them all away next season). From their point of view they limited Italy and Uruguay to few chances. If the midfield dont want to shut down Marchisio, not their problem. If the midfield dont touch Cavani and then Johnson bends over for him then theyre in trouble. Same as with Gerrards back header, they were put in trouble. The only goal they all should have done better with was Balotellis, even then Rooney and the holding mids can take some blame.

I dont get the media, if Rooney and Sturridge miss chances theyre world class. The midfield couldnt keep the ball, but theyre not to blame. An under siege defence lets in some ridiculous goals half of which werent down to them and its all 'Jagielka and Cahill arent goid enough for international football.' This against teams that had Lugano Coates and Paletta in their backlines.

Jagielka isn't and has never been good enough to be an international footballer. His passing is still poor and he's got a mistake in him every so often just waiting to happy. That's not to see he's not a good player, as he clearly is. He's solid, has good anticipation and will always put his body on the line, plus is as honest as you like. He's been excellent for Everton, but for me just isn't an international footballer. Deserves to be in the squad like.

To be fair, half the England team aren't 'international footballers'. I don't think Gary Cahill is any better than Jagielka.
