has always looked a bit nervous for England IMO but that probably due to the fact that he knows one mistake and he will get crucified for it by the press. Has always been a brilliant centre back for Everton and will continue to be for a few years to come, we have no worries if hes good enough at all, much bigger problems to worry about other than centre back...like a striker.
The question should be is Lukaku good enough after his anonymous performances so far

Some of the opinions of Evertonians on this page is quite frankly disturbing.

Sell him for 5mil?

Unique defender in that he is terrible at it?

Too old, injured, can't pass?

Never has this gif been more apt:

I think you would struggle to find many World Class CB's anywhere at the moment, they are a a breed on the verge of extinction due to not being allowed to tackle anymore.

100%

There is not a single centre back playing now or over the last few years that I would have called world class. They are all flawed. It´s a pity.

Most would cite Ramos and Pique for example as top defenders, but in truth they are pretty braindead and average. The best at the moment, most would say are Silva and Kompany I think, but they have their clumsy moments too.

Varane looks promising as that kind of calm composed CB, but let´s see how he fares when he has a pre-season is fully back from injury.

Jags has his weaknesses alright but for us, over the course of a season, he is more than worth his place in the team. One thing though is I think Distin gets criticised too much in comparison as his blunders are more obvious, whereas Jags commits as many errors such as misreading crosses or the bounce of the ball or bad positioning but doesn´t get as much stick. However, both more than make up for any errors in any given game by the quality and effort shown the majority of times.

He is generally a first choice defender in one of the best defences in the league over the last couple seasons, and as such would still fetch us up to 10mil I reckon, and I still wouldn´t want to sell him. I´d much rather him finish his time here ending up as a valuable squad player. I´d miss those games where it seems every ball that comes into the box is cleared by Jags in any way he can!

Jags as a CB is a good player. He does have his weaknesses like you say and I think also you are correct most of the top CB's have flaws.

This is why it is so important to have your 'partnership' correct. For me Distin and Jags and before that Lescott complimented each other, ones weakness being the others strengths and so on. Jags and Cahill are near enough carbon copies of each other they don't compliment each other very well and this is Englands problem in my opinion.

We are struggling for quality CB's in this country at the moment. Jags, Cahill and Lescott(not even in squad lol) are the best we have. Stones is far too wet behind the ears to be throwing in as Englands long term CB, but he is showing exceptional qualities so far.

This thread is almost as laughable as it is rediculous. A non-fully fit Jagielka has two below average games with no protection from the midfield in a team that performed dreadful as a whole and now there's people posting that he's "very poor", that "Distin is better" and "if we got £5m for him I wouldn't be bothered if he was sold."

I dread to think what sort of crap you come out with at the game!
