Has Phil Jagielka peaked?

Can you actually read ? At his age how much more would you expect to get for him? Did I actually say I hate him and want rid ASAP like ? Nah I didn't. Some people read what suits them. At his age if Martinez could bring in someone younger to partner stones long term and the option was to sell a 32 year old who suffers with niggly injuries and some daft mistakes then yeah I wouldn't be too gutted . He made some silly errors last season and tbh I'd love in the next 12 months to have a young class central defence to build on for the next decade . Jagielka and distan can't go on forever and jags is the only one we would get any dough for.

Yes, I actually read you saying you wouldn't be bothered if we sold our best centre half for £5m.
I'll ask you the same question - can you read? Because I'd love you to point out where I said you hated him and wanted rid ASAP.
I agree he made some mistakes last season, as did Distin, Stones and Alcaraz.
I also agree the two of them can't go on forever but with Distin being 37 in December, Jagielka is nearly five years younger so surely we're better sticking with him?

Your post made out I was desperate for him to leave which is not the case. Im more than happy for both to stay but like I've said twice already if Martinez saw an option to bring in another gem at the back and we had to sacrifice a defender to buy him it wouldn't be the end of the world if it were jagielka. When distan leaves it will be on a free so that would be pointless .

The fact Jagz has been bombed for the awful Phil Jones just shows how terrible England are at the back, and the lack of real quality they have to choose from. Like him or hate him John Terry, despite being a below average human being is still quality. I truly believe Jagz is a better player for us than for England. No loss to me if he never plays for England again, will prolong his career.

Distin has always been better than Jags and that's not meant as an insult to Jags. Apart from Kompany I wouldn't have any other CB in the league over him.

Although now I'm afraid I would have Stones instead of Jags as well.

We need a new CB who will take game time and eventually replace Jags and Distin next season.

I think Stones has already replaced one of them, I'll be disappointed if he isn't first choice next season.

He will rotate them but it will be interesting who he plays in the big games or will it be 3 at the back like City.

Huh, Jones is at RB in place of Johnson, it is Smalling replacing Jags, think you have your wires crossed a bit there.

IMO both Jags and Baines are great club players but not great international players. They were both too old when they started to get international
experience and against better opposition neither look entirely comfortable when playing. The fact that the media have them earmarked as scapegoats doesn't help.
At Everton they are secure in their support from fans and manager which allows them to play without fear.

I raised the question recently and got the same why sell our best defender or something to that regard, fact is Jags has been outstanding for us, a real leader and he rightly deserved his place in the England team but unfortunately i think he was at his peak 2/3 years ago. Martinez likes his defenders to play from the back ie Stones so i would imagine he would be willing to let him go if a big money offer came.

And no i don't want him to leave.

Whilst I agree their international careers started to late and leads to inexperience, I don't agree their week links for England because of it.

Just watching the games and seeing how England completely ignore baines's runs goes someway to explain his not being as affective for England. Jags has a poor CM in front of him and JT would of suffered just as much in this team.

Jags is still our best CB and probably England's too. Baines is still our best LB and the best LB in the prem.

No, no he hasnt. Jagielka is far and away the best defender at the Club. He's clearly not fully fit. Playing on four games in the last what, 4 months? Thats going to affect his performances.
