He was a goid bloke and explained the policing levels in Southport from 1990s when he started to now and said 45 plus bobbies on beat in and around Southport are now 25, it's not rocket science from there to see why.

What's also important to consider is that those twenty-five cops on the front line now have a very different role from the one in the 90s.

A minimum of two of those cops in most, if not all shifts, will end up at a property and then (likely) in a hospital dealing with a welfare check.

This regularly takes cops off the streets for entire shifts, meaning responses to other matters go unanswered.

Also I’d say 60-70% or police time now is taken up by work other agencies should be doing. In particular mental health.

I won’t bore you with the details but this all started in the early mid nineties when a certain PM’s Mrs wrote a report.
Policing has moved away from their priority of crime to now being all about vulnerability.
