I am a football fan with a ticket for a football match, in France. Out of nowhere, a HUGE group of people without tickets come hurtling towards me and barge me out of the way and begin to climb fences. As it isn’t possible for me to fight off such huge numbers on my own, I would like to police to arrive and use tear gas to avert the threat, and help me get safely into the football match that I paid for.
its only later you find out through a UK government funded documentary that you were indeed one of the instigators and spend the rest of your days being abused on social media whilst receiving bullets in the post.

Would love all these heroes who hate the police have nobody to call when they need them.
I would love the heroic police officers who regularly gang up on and routinely abuse children from racial minorities to try and understand why they are hated in many quarters (Only talking about the Met and also from a wealth of first hand experience)

Yours is a lazy answer

Also I’d say 60-70% or police time now is taken up by work other agencies should be doing. In particular mental health.

I won’t bore you with the details but this all started in the early mid nineties when a certain PM’s Mrs wrote a report.
Policing has moved away from their priority of crime to now being all about vulnerability.
You tryin to currie favour?

I think a wholesale review of policing (and probably health service too) is needed to determine what is achievable from these public services, what functions the public want these services to do/not do (cops policing the internet or taking up the slack from social services?, the health service funding gender reassignment or cosmetic surgeries?) and once it has been determined what each service will do, make it public, cost it and tax/fund accordingly but don't try and do the other shizzle.

The NHS at the moment seems to be a huge black hole for money and doesn't seem to be getting much right. The cops are in a pickle.

There seems to be a general malaise on all these essential "services" experienced it first hand over last few weeks with NHS.

Don't hate the bizzies or NHS, just want them to function properly.

Seems its too much to ask with these corrupt tory scum.

Tory methodology is to run it into the ground, break it so it fails to function, and privatise it and make many millions.

I've hung back in this but nows the time, a criminal in a uniform is still a criminal. Until the police as an institution can address and account for the corruption and racism and misogyny and homophobia then really, they aint up to serving and protecting anything. Sadly that change will cost money and require attracting a totally different clientele to the ranks. I won't be holding my breath.

Growing up the police were utter murdering vermin as history is slowly but surely confirming. Mad as it sounds I have little experience of an actual police force being the people you call if in peril. Never have done and probably never will.

But the Bizzies at the game, no craic, no conversation and just general aloofness. But I would trust them them if I needed them.
