he must have known jags and distin were first choice, they have been since he and distin arrived (bar jagielkas injury). Was probably unfairly dropped, but he's had so many chances since to stake a claim. Let's just say, if alcaraz had been fit, johnny wouldn't have even made those two league cup appearances.

If he had his head screwed on and actually did seriously care about playing in the world cup, he would have left last year and not used as a charity case.

Read the Donovan thread ha ha

Serious question why does everyone hate Johnny?
Not sure that people hate him, it's just the hypocrisy of the situation. He wants to play first team football but not enough to take a pay cut. To be fair, getting very well paid for not doing much, sounds pretty good so we might all just be a tad jealous.

I don't, it's one of those times where I just shake my head at the fickle nature of fans. It's not that long ago he was our best defender.

I think you can take this another way too, he's showing ambition to want to play first team football and recognising that means he probably has to go elsewhere to do so. There are plenty of pro's who are happy to bench warm and take the money, I think it's pretty refreshing that he doesn't want to do that.

I'd say he's had a few opportunities, and had a few bad games when those opportunities have arisen. We're a bit harsh in the way we immediately crucify some players, while giving others all the time in the world.

he's just a [Poor language removed] imo. Acts all hard, but how many times do you see him pull out of a 50/50? he has the ability, but just doesn't care enough, he is much happier to sit on his arse on the bench earning money rather than actually going out there and playing football.

there's also the fact that he refuses to play RB for our club. If i got the opportunity to play for everton, i wouldn't give a **** where the boss asked me to play, i would bloody well do it. The cheek of the man to say that to a club paying him about 60k a week every week. He may look like he cares with his passion, but when he's on that pitch, he very rarely looks arsed, total opposite of jags who throws his body on the line every game.

I can see him signing for Hamburg in January. His old national manage, Van Marwijk, is in charge there now and the Hamburg defence is absolutely shocking. Hamburg are a pretty rich club, so wages and a fee of sorts should be no problem.

It's not easy being a back up central defender as it's a position that doesn't get rotated often, and when you do play, any mistakes are often very public ones.

Wonder how much we could get for him in January? Can't be more than a million or so I'd have thought.
