Heysal and Hillsborough disasters

The worst of it is that any reds reading this will fall back on the rhetoric of ''bitter'' accusations and lacking of respect for the victims of Hillsborough. I always say the worst thing that should happen to a fan at the match is that his/her team loses. We should remember the 96 and the 39.

That was exactly my thinking, James. I've no problem with tastefully remembering the dead and saying a prayer for their families. In fact, I'd say it was the human thing to do.

You're right, they would. That's because the nuances of the issue are uncomfortable for them, rather than anyone here disrespecting the dead of either event.

next year will also be the 25th anniversary of the bradford city fire, where 56 people lost their lives at valley parade. i suspect this may well receive greater publicity in this country as the victims were obviously our own, as it were, whereas the victims in heysel were not.

I find the whole H'Boro thing a bit sickening to be honest. Typical whingeing 'woe is me' from kopites attitude. Radio M/Side are cancelling a whole days programming on the day and dedicating it to this, which to me is an absolute disgrace of tax payers money.
They should be seeking justice off the fans who purposely went down and tried to storm the gate without a ticket. Somehow that fact seems to have been buried from the memories of the wallowing, whingeing, deluded kopites

I know someone who was at the game and was pulled out, so for that I feel remorse - but not for the complete papering over of the cracks that was the ****wits who were rushing the gates, and who were probably from the same vein of people that caused that wall to collapse back in 85.

I feel for those 96 that lost their lives at Hillsborough and the familes and friends involved, but we should give the same respect to the 39 Juventus fans that died at Heysel. Why is the same respect not given to the Italians who lost their lives? I dont and never have understood the word "Justice" regarding Hillsborough. Who is looking for justice and for what? Is there no justice for Heysel? Of course we should remember Hillsborough but dragging up the same issues for the last twenty years is inappropriate.

And quite possibly those that almost caused an almost identical tradgedy at the Ataturk Stadium a few years ago in Liverpool's Champions League Final loss to AC Milan.

I agree, would + rep you but I have to spread it about first.

I'm sure the S*n did apologise not so long ago. The point, though, is that the whole Justice for the 96 movement seems to hinge on the S*n's reporting of the incident. The paper clearly sensationalized the incident, made things up and hinted that people from Liverpool were scum. So I'm supportive of the general feeling of people regarding the newspaper.

But my god, this vicious outpouring of bile and the sentimentalization of everything regarding the tragedy is too much. The fact is that many separate incidents lead to deaths, from not opening gates to ease the crush, to Liverpool fans storming through gates that had been opened to eject people from the game.

So I just wonder what Justice for the 96 feel they can achieve? We all know what happened and painting a gloss over Liverpool fans' involvement in the matter won't bring anyone back, nor will it change the truth of what occurred on that day.

A newspapers response (of which editors etc of the day have since left...), or nobody serving any worthwhile sentence for manslaughter for Heysel?

Which is why I said earlier, the word justice is more applicable for Heysel. Don't see why its still branded in relation to Hillsborough - what justice is there to get?
