Having designed and built my own speakers since the mid 80s, my foray into open baffle dipoles started with these prototypes today.

The bass is lighter than my previous (transmission line) designs, but the realism, lack of boxy colouration and the amazing imagery is really captivating. Might just have to make them properly.

And yes ... I know they look like coffin lids! Shape and dimension is critical to frequency response and this is as far away from coffin lid that I could get with the modeling software!

I’ve heard a few good speakers with ribbon tweeters in the past, they seem to have fallen out of favour. I don’t read magazines or go to shows anymore as I’m happy (unless my premium bonds come up) so I could be wrong. They look great by the way.

Ribbons are the best I've heard. They're expensive because they have to be hand assembled and it's fiddly, which is why they're rare in mass-market designs unless you spend big money. Even then, the way hifi is you can still spend big and they cheap out with dome tweeters the scoundrels.

I have a feeling you and one of my close friends would get along great. If I recall correctly, he had 11 speakers in his first vehicle, which was basically the truck pictured below

*I stand corrected: 8 speakers. I have no idea what the last comment is, but he can't spell so not even sure what those words mean.

*reader, as an automobile the Sonoma was a great big lump of metal diarrhea, but as a portable sound room it was well above average.

My gf's dad does something very similar to this, the set up looks roughly the same with a DAC etc.

He recently got a watch (?)put into something to clean the electricity

Sonos speakers round the gaff, so I can stream any music I want, anywhere I want. That >>>> vinyl.

As there’s undoubtedly a fair amount of overlap between the two crowds, I’ll also double down with “Kindle >>>> books” for the paperback sniffers.

Boss that mate. Never seen a speaker that doubles as an ironing board before.

Don’t have to be mutually exclusive though. I have Sonos but also run a Cambs Audio Alta TT through it (via Sonos amp)
I’m sure some people will say vinyl loses something through doing that but I’m quite happy with it, modern ease most of the time and I can still collect and listen to vinyl. I think the vinyl sounds better on it than say Apple Music, but might just be some sort of weird confirmation bias to help me justify the turntable 🫣
(Agree about kindle though)

Mains filters clean up the electricity ... which can bring improvements so I'm told, but I've never tried them, other than using rf chokes on all my bits of kit. Some serious stuff can cost thousands ... just to give a clean mains supply.
