It goes back to the cradle mate, with differences made long before schools get involved, or even nurseries. It's very hard to overcome bad parenting unfortunately. There has been a £200m cut in the public health budget as it falls outside of the NHS (services are commissioned by the local authority). That's a consequence of certain departments being politicized imo as it means cuts are made to departments based on their political sensitivities rather than on real need and effectiveness.
true that Bruce, I used to help in my kids infants school, did courses to help the teachers out with a few other parents, most of them ended up being teachers assistants , made up for them as they had put the time and effort in, but being the only male, doing this, I was constantly getting asked to go in before work or on my days off, I asked the teachers why, they said some of them have no male role models in there lives and we like them to interact with you, plus the kids keep asking for you.
It opened my eyes to how hard there job is, and sad at times as well there were a couple of kids who didn't know how to play, just sat there and looked on, football , building stuff nothing, just looked at you like you were an alien,
I asked the teachers what was wrong with them as it was disturbing to watch, they said nothing but there mums just sit them in front of the tv as soon as they get in and that's it. I knew two of there parents both of them not the classic single mum on the dole, both worked and had done for years, as the terms went on and they got older they took up more and more time and effort ,which there classmates could have done with as there needs became more demanding, there should have been some sort of safety net offered for there sake and there fellow pupils educational needs
It has been a struggle for a lot of those kids, quite a few have done well for themselves, some not so good, but it really needs looking into instead of getting treated like a political football with results topping quality all round education for all, not just those with the right address.
