Very famous photo but for those who don't know, this brave soul is August Landmesser refusing to salute Hitler in 1936.

He had been due to marry a Jewish woman, was then blocked by the Nazi party and ostracised by the general public for good measure.

He attempted to flee Nazi Germany, got caught and was charged with "Racial Infamy".

He was sent to prison and his betrothed is believed to have died at Bernburg concentration camp.

"Despite everything, I believe people are really good at heart" - Anne Frank.

After the Restoration of the Monarchy, in 1661, Cromwell's body (he had died in 1658) was disinterred from his tomb in Westminster Abbey, dragged through the streets of London, and "he" was put on trial for regicide along with twelve other live regicides.

He was found guilty and his corpse was quartered, and his severed head was placed on a 20 foot high spike outside Westminster Hall. It remianed there for 20 years!!
