Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

So I guess Everton can't keep this in the public eye like United did when their player Evra was abused.

The FA I already had low expectations for. But for EFC to roll over and not keep asking the whys, whats and whens about their investigation, that's just appalling. All it would take is a tame journalist to ask every press conference to keep it out there.

Meanwhile LFC get the player before their difficult fixtures run out and he can be off in Summer if need be to keep the brand clean.

Call me a cynic but the longer the absence of any outcome, the more suspicious it becomes to me. At this rate they'll probably find Firmino guilty and give him a life ban- shame he'll be in his sixties but that'll be quick for the FA.

Looking into the Evra/Sewerz incident and if "we" followed that timeframe, there should be news any day now.

On 15 October, Evra captained Manchester United in the club's 1–1 draw away to Liverpool.[145] Following the match, in an interview with French television channel Canal+, Evra asserted that Liverpool player Luis Suárez had racially abused him multiple times during the match.[146] He also stated that he had informed referee Andre Marriner of the incidents at the conclusion of the match. The following day, the FA announced it would investigate the claim,[147] and on 17 November, the FA announced it would charge Suárez with "abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour contrary to FA rules", including "a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Patrice Evra"

Why do I not have much confidence this will happen at all? If it was the other way round it would have been in the public eye for the whole period.

Incidents of racism, homophobia and other forms of discrimination are up by 38% in England's top four leagues compared to this time last term, anti-racism body Kick It Out has said.

There have been 111 incidents since August - 64 in the Premier League and 47 in the Championship, League One and League Two, compared to 40 and 29 respectively at the midway stage of last season.

No mention at all of Holgate in the article, despite doing a whole dedicated piece when it first happened. Swept under the rug much?

Unsurprisingly nothing has happened, if anyone is going to get charged it will be Holgate. As I've previously mentioned Holgates comments were made when he was 15, at a time when it was largely accepted. Very few people got into trouble for using homophobic language, up until recently. Most people used homophobic language at school which was when, he made it. I think we all know he used it, the referee knew and so do the Everton players. I think because of the fact Liverpool are 1 of the biggest clubs in Britain and he is one of their best players, heavily influences their decision not to deal with it.

John Terry was dealt with whilst playing for Chelsea and England. If the FA wanted to not deal with a case surely it would be that one.

Well the difference then was that they got him by lipreading. While of course footballers have lied about racism in the past such as Diouf, but Holgate doesn't have any reason to lie. The referee wouldn't of failed to send him off, if he didn't think something happened, Holgate wouldn't of touched the ref and risked being sent off, if he hadn't said it.

Mate cmon, you haven’t got a clue just like everyone else here... you’re just guessing based on what your bias tells you to think.
Yes of course we all have a bias the OJ Simpson case in America revealed the racial biases, both Blacks and Whites have. Yes we all have a bias towards Everton, but that doesn't mean we can't look at things rationally. Holgate risked being sent off by touching the referee, which he wouldn't have done if Firmino had just used your typical swear word. Really, it's very rare that players accuse one another of racism, as far as I'm aware the 2 players in question have no history oF animosity. There are easier targets in that Liverpool side to lie about than Firmino, he's not white and he's one of their better players. If he really wanted to just stir up trouble he would of picked on a player like Milner or Henderson to lie about. Mason is risked a lot accusing him of this, which I don't think he would of done if he was lying. Plus Holgate comes from Yorkshire, he's not a Everton fan, he doesn't view Liverpool any differently from any other team. It's unlikely he's just made something up, out of a hatred of Liverpool FC.

I believe 100% that Holgate has acted in good faith and hasn't made up the accusation out of spite. The thing is there is a huge leap from that to Firmino being guilty of Racism.

There were a hell of a lot of players directly involved in the incident, as well as the Ref and they didn't react. Nothing conclusive has come from the TV footage. So for me there is the real possibility that Holgate may of misheard what was said. Until that possibility is ruled out I don't think we should jump to conclusions. Wait for the investigation to be completed, read the report and then decide.

You mean actually waiting for the investigation to be complete, reading the report and making an informed decision. I think that is much better than jumping to conclusions, backing yourself into a corner and then presumably calling the investigation a sham if it doesn't fit with your wild speculation.

Racism is abhorrent. It should be above rivalries.

The irony is that the attitude you have to the RS is pretty identical to the attitude racists have to black people. The only difference is you are seeing things in terms of Red and Blue instead of Black and White.

Please provide some actual evidence to support what you believe happened instead of supposition, guesswork and inference.
