Holgate Racially Abused By Firmino - The Guardian

Yes, it is. If you sit around a pub and say 'negro' to a friend and everyone laughs about it though still a weird thing to say isn't comparable to storming full speed towards someone visibly angry and have no reason for pointing out anyone's ethnicity.

Suarez said it because Evra is black. There is a reason he did it.

Would he have said to a white player 'GO AWAY WHITEY'

Would he have called Crouch a big lanky goggled eyed freak?

What I don't get is when you look at both of them, where does race come into it? It would be very odd for him to make a racist comment based on appearance of them both.

Only way he could be racist is against nationality which would be strange in itself considering the country he plays in. If someone could enlighten me to how the racism can play a part then it would be quite helpful here!

I know what you mean mate, everyone who isn't white is pretty much the same so why bother.

Why? Because I won’t join in with over the top assumptions before we know the facts?

Sound logic ;)

There's been a very serious allegation made here. If the word in question was used in any other area of employment you would be sacked. So that's why it's important there is a thorough investigation. No one is saying firmino is definitely guilty, but nor should anyone be brushing it under the carpet.

If firmino is guilty he should be sacked. If Holgate is making a false allegation he should receive a lengthy ban. It's serious.

Holgate alleges he’s been racially abused , Evertonians are concerned and in some cases angry but that makes us bitter and small time .

Something clearly happened , what exactly I’ve no idea . At the minute it seems our player says he was racially abused , like I say I don’t follow the journey from that to us being bitter .

Going over the top about something without knowing the facts and being a keyboard warrior is not a great thing to do mate, which it seems a vast majority of people are doing in this thread.

I’d wait until knowing the facts before labelling them all racist loving klan types personally, but maybe I’m just not a mouth frothing angry guy.

I mean for a Brazilian to say something racist is a little strange. Especially when if you go back to other racism cases there is a definitive factor between the two party's, Suarez and evra for example .

I just don't understand that with similar skin tones what he would say that would be racist

If it’s proven I agree action should be taken.

As of yet it’s unclear, hence me questioning why everyone is going over the top about it at this stage.

Let’s be realistic here.

One looks South American, the other looks black.

My reply , if you’ve read it , says he either called him it or he thought he called him it . I don’t know but as is standard given the circumstances it’s not unreasonable for fans to believe their own player . I include the RS in that , my issue with them as with Suárez isn’t that they believe their own player it’s that they explain stuff away . In fact they explain everything away .

If they post in their forums “I don’t think he said it , I reckon he misheard him “ or similar then who could argue other than to say they’re wrong or we think they’re wrong . When I find them pathetic is when they explain “it’s a term of endearment “ or “its attempt gbh from holgate “ and “to react like that after that assault is reasonable “ . For me That’s the difference , one of many , but a major difference between us and them . Anyway I think they’re pathetic , look at them with holgates twitter nobody else does it . They’re Rats.

No idea what was said so not going to comment until the full story comes out. Although if we have to rely on Bobby Madley to find out the truth, they may as well just forget investigating and give Holgate a ban for lying now.

Some of those comments on RAWK are a disgrace.

If Firminho has racially abused him, then he should be banned from all football grounds in the UK for life, same as any fan would be.

I think there's probably enough technology to clear this up conclusively. My guess is that there wont be a will to pursue it. The matter will dies down and then an inquiry will just fizzle out to some BS conclusion.

Whether firmino did or didn’t use racist abuse I don’t know (I’ll wait for the “investigation”), but I expect Davek is right in that either way this won’t get anything like a lifetime UK ban if found guilty.
Sadly it’ll come down to too much money being involved when it’s a high profile player.
Suarez case is the perfect example. How much money would have been lost by clubs, sponsors, agents, FA’s etc if he’d been thrown out of football for life. Too costly for too many unfortunately.
Sadly can only ever see an example being made of someone when it’s lower profile and there’s less damage caused to finances/brands etc.

Because people from different areas and societies view others as lesser than them. For example, you will get racism between black communities due to their heritage. It’s not just about colour of skin, it’s about culture and language and ethnic origin.

Errrrm mate Firminho is and looks south American i doubt any person describing the bloke would describe him in a similar manner to how they would describe Holgates skin colour/ethnicity
